He offered her a smile, bright and easy and broad, and rubbed at the back of his neck where he'd tired it out from squatting and craning his neck up to look into the eyes of his smaller patients. "But if you have any ideas, I'm all ears. I'll even share the next dessert ration we get from the cafeteria. Just say the word and it's yours."
His eyes met hers as he took another sip of coffee, his phone forgotten for the time being, and he gave a shrug. The finer details of her appearance may have stuck out like a sore thumb to Sam, but to Pete she was still as pretty as ever. Things were a hell of a lot different nowadays, compared to when they'd first met back when Austin was in its former glory, but Sam was still Sam. He was glad she was at the UMCB with him, one little piece of his past.
"Maybe I like the way you look all the time," he said simply. "Did you ever think about that?"
