"I've been around little kids and their parents all day," Pete replied with a grin. He picked up one of the mugs and took a sip, grateful for the fortifying caffeine (so what if it was still light years away from the stuff he used to drink? Coffee was coffee.). He gestured towards one of the tables and stretched his legs out once he'd sat down. "So not a lot of gossip yet. I bet I can figure out a way to repay you later, though."
It was a suggestive kind of thing to say, maybe, but he didn't mean anything by it. (Unless she wanted him to mean something by it.)
"How's your day been going, Sammy? Are you working still, or getting ready for the rest of your evening?" Everyone had weird hours at UMCB, no matter what you did, but there was no use denying most of the day had already passed them by. He pulled his phone out and idly scrolled through the Freenet while they had their coffee.
