The man posed a simple question, and really it should have been given a simple answer, but for a moment, Penelope blanked. She stared at him, quietly, for a moment, before glancing around the gas station, and back again to him. Nope. Nothing. She couldn't think of a way to answer that. If she said, yes, then she could be considered an easy target. If she said, no, then she could be walking into a fight she didn't plan, or was ready for.
Finally she just narrowed her eyes a little and threw the question right back at him. "Are you alone?"
Awkwardly, Penelope crossed her arms over her chest and waited. Two could play this game if he really wanted to. But, then again, Penelope wasn't really a fighter. Already, she started to try to calculate how long it would take for her to run around the guy and get to the door if the situation called for it.
