Sitting down on the couch beside her, Jadyn stretched out her legs before she crossed one ankle over the other. Given her height, the desk wasn’t exactly the most spacious place to sit behind, so it was nice to stretch out when given the chance. She could tell something was bothering Maizie, but she decided not to pry. If she wanted to talk to her about it, she would in her own time. For now, she could play the part of the distraction that the girl needed her to be.
“Well, it’s a good thing you came to me,” she said, sinking into the sofa, “because I need a break too and now you’ve given me an excuse to take it.” She followed Maizie’s gaze as she examined the interior of her office. It wasn’t anything spectacular to look at. Jadyn never found a reason to make the space into her own. She didn’t decorate it or added any personal touch to it. Honestly, it was kind of bland. File cabinets guarded either side of the mahogany desk. In front of the sofa they sat on, a coffee table was set, facing some portrait that had always hung there. Next to the laptop and a mug on her table, everything else was work-related.
“Yeah,” she concurred, resting her forearm on the armrest of the couch, “Except loads more paperwork. The paperwork never stops.” She shook her head a bit. “If my teachers could see me now,” she commented lightly, “I bet they would tell me that if I had as much concentration as I did now, ‘stead of picking fights all of the time, I would have been their best student. Maybe I would have made Honor Roll.” She crinkled her nose up at that. “Nah, I think I’ll stick with my black marks.” She sent a grin her way. “I like the fighting too much.”
