Shrugging a little bit at Day's question, Maizie took her suggestion and headed over to the sofa, plopping down onto one of the cushions. “Just checking in on you,” she said, her tone offhand enough that it should pass the muster. She didn’t need an excuse to visit someone who’d been Dad’s friend since forever, right?
Maizie didn't really know whether Day was aware that she and Savannah had argued, but she wasn't about the bring it up. That whole thing was a mess, and she needed to get her head on straight about it before she made it worse somehow. No, she decided, coming to see Aunt Day was a chance to get away from that.
"I needed a break," she admitted. This was true; what she needed a break from, however, wasn't clear. "And I thought, 'I know, I haven't been to Aunt Day's boring ol' office for a long time.'" Maizie shot a grin, maybe not quite as wide as usual, in Jadyn's direction. "So here I am, bugging you."
She made a show of looking around the room, as if she expected to find something interesting at any moment. "Pretty much looks the same as the last time I was here."
