Setting her fork down, North reached over for the paper football. She hadn’t played this game in a while. “You can call me North bro,” she returned his grin as she pushed her tray to the side an inch, “I’m cool with it.”
Flipping it over in the palm of her hand, her brown hues flickered over to him as she continued, “But I don’t think I can do the Thing 1 and Thing 2 shirts with you. Sorry, dude.” She gave a shrug of her shoulders. “It’s already been reserved with someone el—” Her voice cut off at that as an image of Norah surfaced in her mind.
Their childhood friend, Friday, had given them both a Thing 1 and Thing 2 hoodie on their birthdays one year. The memory stung. Clearing her throat, she handed the folded paper back to him. “I’ll let you do the honors,” she said, changing the topic, “But, before you kick it off, let me get a bite of this mystery meat.” North pointed at the chunk on her platter. She hoped that JP was responsible for this or else she was going to seriously regret it.
“Thanks for letting me stay in your room, by the way,” she poked at the meat with the edge of her fork, “I promise I won’t get in your way too much.”
