"I didn't say that either." Maizie hadn't exactly given Olivia all that much information about the friend who'd be dropping off stuff for her, and maybe she should've asked before she'd agreed, but maybe this guy didn't need to be acting so presumptuous about someone he barely knew. Then again, though, maybe this friendship had been going on for longer than Olivia was even aware.
She didn't like feeling so out of the loop. And it was stranger still to feel that way about Maizie. All thoughts of carving out some space between the two of them were gone as she studied the man in front of her, noticing how he tensed in response to her own anxiety and reminding herself to keep her motions steady, just like she'd had to when faced with other raiders in more dangerous situations than this.
"I believe you." Her words were genuine, but there was an edge to her voice that all the same. She'd always been the person who got things for Maizie, but she couldn't anymore. Of course there'd be someone else who'd want to help her. This would've happened eventually; it made total sense. So why was she so on edge?
Olivia took a deep breath, trying to diffuse the tension she still felt even as she became more sure that he wasn't currently a threat. "I bet she'll really appreciate it." She pursed her lips, wondering, before she decided to try to take the higher road here. "My name's Olivia, by the way. Since we apparently have someone in common now."
