"So who do I ask about that?" she asked, turning to look at him. Because she just wanted to know, one way or another. She wanted to know if she should give up this stupid hope and just...well actually if she didn't have that she didn't like think much about her other options.
And then he asked that question. And her hand tightened on her bat. She'd been doing a pretty good job at not becoming a savage, at not killing people, at directing her anger towards dead things, but that question cut through her like barbed wire. He couldn't be dead. he was too stubborn, but...yeah okay he was older than a lot of people. And yes he was strong, kind of. Okay he a skinny fucker but he had to be alive, he just had to be.
"He doesn't need me to survive," she said. Because he'd asked how long it had been and assumed that was what he was getting at, but maybe it was just some stupid random, pointless question. As for the actual question he'd asked she wasn't going to answer that, she wasn't even going to think about it, she couldn't. She'd made sure that never happened, it was the only way she was still here.
"Then take me to the tallest building around here," she said. "Unless you've got a better idea?" Because she really needed one of those.
