"I wish I could feed you, Frost, I really do," Lita said evenly, waiting for him to realize that they were securing him down fast. "And if I thought you could keep it down without vomiting, I'd do my damndest to get you some lamb. When this is all over, we'll sit down and have a nice meal together, I promise."
It seemed that Lita had run out of luck. Or, more likely, the nurse's ministrations had eventually caught Frost's wandering attention span. He thrashed wildly and Lita took a step back to make sure she didn't get caught in it. Addicts get a strange sort of supernatural strength when they were desperate; tapping into that inner hunger and using it against anyone who got in the way of what they really wanted. Graham begged, pleaded with her and Lita listened to all his cries with equal professional courtesy. She was rooting for him to pull through this and from what she knew of him, Lita had confidence he would. That didn't mean it was any less heard to watch him go through it, though.
He didn't trust her now, he might not ever. But that was a risk Lita was willing to risk if it meant ridding Graham of the monkey on his back. This was exactly the reason to why you shouldn't befriend your patients. It was a belief that Lita felt strongly in favor of for a long, long time. However, lately, she seemed to be stepping over that line and she wasn't entirely sure why. However, being soft of Graham because they were friendly wouldn't do him any favors, so Lita needed to focus and reassess her priorities, which was the health of her patient. Friendship wasn't exactly a key part of UMCB's rehabilitation regimen; from a doctor, at least. They could mend any hurt feelings at end of this nightmare, if he was still talking to her. And if he didn't, well...Lita would accept it.
"Well, trust me or don't," Lita said airily, as if it didn't matter one way or the other. "But know for damn sure I'm going to dry you out and in the end, you're going to thank me. Maybe not today, or next week, or next year, but one day you'll see I've got your best interests at heart."
