Was Isaac a huge part of her life now? They shared space and now they had this ruse they had both agreed was for the good of both of them. But Demi still felt like they were strangers who happened to share space. When they did talk, nine times out of ten it turns into an argument. Living with him, this truce she had with him, the sheer fact that he was under the watchful eye of the Capitol because of her, she supposed that did all add up to him being a huge part of her life. What Lita said was true though, Isaac was a good man as well.
“He is a good man,” she agreed with a nod. He might have played a part in her having been locked up, but he was trying to atone for those sins now. He had risked his career and his very place in the Capitol to rescue her from the horrors she had been facing. Demi didn’t approve of the department he worked for, actually, she wanted to see the whole place burn to the ground. Despite those feelings, she couldn’t ignore that there were good people in the Department of Justice, people like Isaac and Nina. They might be few, but they were there.
If Demi knew at all what Lita was thinking, she would have denied every last bit of it - at least in regards to herself. This was all an act, a way to survive within the confines of a nicer prison, a way to keep both Isaac and herself out of trouble and hopefully off of Lansing’s radar. Yet, she couldn’t deny that a part of her did care about Isaac, if she didn’t, well, she would have packed up her things and ran like hell back to the Dog Park. She might not be able to pinpoint exactly how she cared about him, but there were feelings there, ones she often tried not to look to closely at.
Demi settles in the chair across from Lita, pouring them both glasses of wine as the other woman snatches up her phone and exams the evidence of Isaac’s attractiveness. She can’t help the broad smile, or that little feeling of pride that swells up inside of her at Lita’s reaction. Isaac isn’t hers, but in moments like this it’s easy to forget that.
“Isn’t he? And not all day, there are hours where he works,” she answers with a laugh. Choosing to leave out the reality of their living situation, which is really she’s often locked away in the bedroom and he’s in the living room - they haven’t quite found a way to bridge that gap of sharing space completely. “Cohabitation does have it perks, I can’t argue that.”
With a laugh, Demi waved off Lita’s antics.
“Hmm, how can I use this ‘forever in my debt’ thing to my advantage?” she teased, “Deal, next time I’ll make it sound like it’s all business and he really should stay. Because really, the pictures probably don’t do him justice, he really is a man you have to see in person to appreciate.”
The compliment is nice, especially after the fiasco that was attempting to cook for Isaac on his birthday.
“Damn it, you’ve now figured out my evil plan. I’m clearly trying to maintain that whole favorite person status and bump it up to favorite friend,” Demi remarked with a laugh, “And I’m not at all disappointed in that fact that it’s working. Now, as my mom would say, eat up before it gets cold.”
