Lita considered what Demi had to say about not having things made it easier to integrate your life with someone else's. To someone who had always valued material wealth and possessions, the idea of not having things to show who you were made Lita feel strangely uncomfortable. Being able to point to an article of clothing or a piece of art over a fireplace and say, yes, that is who I am and what I'm about is infinitely more easy than to actually sit down and explain to someone how you actually feel.
"I think I'm making myself seem more complicated and deep than I actually am," Lita said with a sigh and a shrug. "With me, men seem to always want a part of the package but not the whole thing. I'm pretty but too opinionated. I had money and could buy them things but hated if it made them look weak. We have fun when we're together but I work too much. I just hold myself in too high a regard to settle for too long with someone who is either too dumb or too scared to handle the whole deal."
Sure, there were things Lita wasn't telling Demi about her issues with men and trust, but really, they had only recently met. Hell, there were things about herself that Lita wouldn't even tell Savannah or Josh and they were as close to Lita as anyone could be. Still, what she told Demi was as close to the truth as she could stand being without feeling weird about it.
Lita was visibly relieved to hear that Issac treated Demi with respect. She couldn't imagine her new friend being under anyone's thumb but theirs was a unconventional arrangement. Lita listened to Demi's description of Issac's attitude his supposed opinion of her but came to a very different conclusion than her friend had about his motivations.
"I don't think anyone who has met you for even a minute would mistake you for being breakable," Lita said, approaching the table and to await Demi's delicious-smelling dinner. "I mean, I could be totally off the mark here but to me it sounds like he's kind of scared of you. I mean, not scared that you'd murder him in the middle of the night or anything like that. But maybe there's something about you that makes him feel...out of control. Nervous. Hot under the collar like."
Lita was probably speaking out of turn and talking out of her ass. She didn't know Issac from any other schmoe walking around the Capitol but if someone like Demi thought well of him, there was something there worth knowing. Lita was intensely curious about him so when Demi offered up his photograph, Lita unabashedly jumped at the chance.
"Uh, yes please!" Lita said, rubbing her hands together in anticipation. "Let me check this guy out. Where is Issac tonight? Did I scare him away?"
