Taking a seat at the table made of recycled pallets, she touched the rough wood with her index finger, tracing along the lines of the wood. This was Gray's work table, which brought all sorts of anguish just looking at it, but it seemed appropriate that they would sit there given the topic of conversation.
Inhaling deeply to get her bearings, she nodded to his question, though took another moment before she started speaking.
"Round the beginning of July one of the scouts said he found a goldmine of supplies. Gray went to check it out with him but he never came back. He was missing for a while. Some--" Savannah paused, her fists clenching in anger just thinking about it, "Some bitch who lived down in the tunnels kidnapped him. Did all kinds of unspeakable things to him just for the hell of it. Guess she got bored of him so she got a shuffler and made it bite Gray then threw him back out into Austin." To die.
It hurt to talk about, but not a lot of people knew the full details of this. Sure she'd made her announcement to the library survivors, but not with the details she was telling Theo now. Theo was someone she trusted (someone Gray had trusted) and he was living right in the belly of the beast. He needed to know.
"Someone from the Hellhounds found Gray and took him back to the Dog Park. Gray told me that when he was getting picked up by Rodeo some Patrolmen came across them and were going to shoot him and blame it on the Hellhounds. You know how bad the blood is between the Capitol and the Hellhounds. But, well, they made it out alive. Got back to the Dog Park. Gray went through quarantine and was healin' up real nice. The day he died... he was coming back, finally. But somehow someone--Someone knew. Patrolmen met them and I don't know what--The Capitol's Patrolmen shot Gray."
Looking up from the table, she glanced at Theo, trying to get a read on his expression. She'd told him a lot of information and it was information that contradicted everything the Capitol was saying. But Savannah knew the truth and hoped that Theo would believe her.
