Well, at least Laberenz was courteous, which made Lita more inclined to acquiesce to his request. If he came in making demands she might dig her heels into the sand a bit, even though ultimately she'd do what he asked. Seeing as it was a polite appeal, it was no skin off her ass giving her opinion on a few of the staff here.
Lita was silent for a moment, turning the names over in her mind. Dr. Zeckendorf's face immediately came up in her mind's eye, as they were colleagues who had more of less regular, professional contact with one another. The other name, Leo Chandless, she was less familiar with.
"You'll have to jog my memory on whoever this 'Leo' is," Lita said with a helpless shrug. "There's so many people here it's hard to keep track of everyone. If I saw a picture of him or you told me where I'd normally come across him at the hospital I could be of better help. Otherwise you might be shit out of luck on that one."
Lita steepled her fingers in front of her mouth in thought, formulating her opinions on Dr. Desmond Zeckendorf.
"Dr. Zeckendorf and I have been colleagues for awhile now," Lita started, organizing her experiences with the doctor in her mind and weighing their significance, if there were any at all. "I've never had issue with him. He has the reputation as a workaholic, but that could be said about most doctors, myself included. We've only worked together directly a handful of times and he's always been professional. Nice to everyone, really: doctors, nurses, janitors, patients, whoever. Always asks me how I'm doing when we pass in the hall."
Lita clicked her tongue against her teeth, her mind rounding on the morning she'd heard about the two girls being found by the doctor. The hospital had been abuzz with the prospect that they had a serial killer in their midst and poor Dr. Z had been at the center of the mess. Lita had almost felt bad for him.
"I mean, I never saw him or chatted him up during or after he found those girls. I know some people started whispering about his habits, finding it strange that he wanted to prep his own O.R., or that he slept in his office, but honestly I didn't find any of it all that out of the ordinary. It's not the preferred or usual way you'd go about setting a room up for a patient; normally you'd inform an orderly or a nurse and they get everything around while you do your prep work but it's definitely not unheard of. And I can attest that we've all caught a few winks in our offices over the years. Gotta catch up on sleep whenever and wherever you can."
Lita sighed, feeling that this whole endevour was pointless. What did her opinion matter when girls were being murdered?
"I don't know, Detective. Is any of this at all helpful?"
