...a few of your buddies, they sure look shady Blades are long, clenched tight in their fist Aimin' straight at your back
Lita had never seen so much paperwork in her whole damn life. Her desk was piled high with forms that needed her signature, patient charts, test results, and enough inter-office memos to wallpaper the entire hospital. She'd agreed to see meet the Detective last week and had rescheduled a few times now but she couldn't justify putting him, or work, off for much longer. Now that she was here, slogging through a veritable mountain of files and folders, she almost wished she'd come back sooner.
Taking almost an entire week off had been an absolute necessity but that didn't mean her abrupt and unexplained departure had sat well with most of her bosses and colleagues. She knew they'd had to pick up the slack for her being M.I.A. and considering she wasn't planning on offering much by way of an explanation for her time away, she knew things would only end up getting worse.
Lita was on edge. Not so much about the line of questioning surrounding the murdered girls the Detective was coming to ask or the fact that the killer was still on the loose. She'd been through the inquiries before and despite looking over her shoulder more and carrying her gun whenever she could get away with it, she'd was cautiously optimistic about the case's eventual outcome. No, she was nervous at being back in the hospital again with all the Capitol guards breathing down her neck. People in the know were well aware of her connection with the LBJ and its past and present leaders. Anyone with half a brain would put together why she'd been absent lately. Any one of these Ollinger lackeys could just as easily been the one to murder Gray if they'd been given the opportunity.
Lita had only been back at the UMCB for a couple of hours and already had the sneaking suspicion she was being kept an eye on. She saw the same guard mosey by her office every fifteen minutes on the nose. Sure, he was probably just on a scheduled patrol. But...maybe not.
Lita looked up at the knock on frame of her open office door.
"Detective," Lita said with the utmost courtesy. "I hope you had a good night's sleep in our lovely facility."
