The whiskey was smooth but still burned on the way down, though Savannah didn't mind. It brought a warmth to her body that she'd been missing ever since Gray went missing. This wasn't a habit she wanted to fall into, however. Finding comfort at the bottom of a bottle would be easier than dealing with everything, but she knew that would never be an option for her. There was too much at stake.
"No it--It's fine. We probably should talk about this, even if it seems too soon. It's not like we can stop time and wait until we're ready," she said, taking another sip of her drink. Pausing and taking a few deep breaths, she continued, "Lansing's announcement yesrerday was, well, it was bullshit. Do you think he knows the truth? Do you think he's part of it all?"
Though LBJ had never allied with the Capitol and given them the ability to install their patrol men within their walls, they still had to trade them for water. She'd never thought much of it before but now it made her skin crawl knowing that it was their only option since the water of the river running through Austin was too contaminated from the gas they'd dropped over the city.
