When Rodeo shoots her a look, she winks back. Sure, she’ll take the credit, she’ll heap the praise. She’s not that dead inside. It feels good to do right and hopefully she has. Hopefully she hasn’t put off the man they want so much that he’s not willing to stay, to help them, because she'd gone full on.
Now, she certainly likes that Marcus shows restraint when Rodeo offers up the harem of ladies. Of course Marcus looks but she can tell that getting his wick wet isn’t top on his list of priorities. He’s not mindless. He’s thoughtful and that’s the type of man Teagan wants around. The girls peeking up over their lunch seem disappointed that they weren’t given a closer look. The bitches are always riled up about something.
What grabs her attention is the way he hates the situation they’re all in. She can hear it in the growl of his voice. There’s a decency there that’s refreshing. He might like to be needed but he’s not entirely glad that his services are so much in demand. At least, that’s what she’s gathering. Against her initial thoughts, she might just learn to like this person.
`That’s what we need. All that. Medical care is important,no doubt, but no one expects miracles ‘round here. If you’re tryin’ then less people are dyin’.” Rodeo isn’t the only one that is entreating now. So is Teagan. For all her bark and bite, what matters most are the people that live here, her boys, the girls, the babies and having Marcus with them instead of against them is now high on her agenda. Teagan’s heard that old adage a million times - you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. Being who she is, you’d think she would be the first to heed that advice but she’d been terribly remiss in her initial judgment of this tall, broad man. She can’t change it though. No matter what, she can’t take back the last hour. She moves forward with lesson learned. Hopefully he’s learning too that she’s not so bad. That this place is an oasis in the harshness. That maybe it was a little bit a luck they ran into each other no matter how it was first perceived.
She folds her arms around herself, “How 'bout it? We get your bike, your things and then you can spend a night. Have a shower, have a few drinks and go to sleep with a full belly, maybe even a pillow under that head o’ yours. We can go over the rest after you’ve rested. Tomorrow you can stay or roll on out of here.” She looks to Rodeo for his approval.
