That was new information she hadn’t expected. “How did it get to that point?” She needed to wrap her head around it. “Can you explain to me what had happened?” She knew that the Capitol was a large part of the reason why Gray was dead now. She knew that the patrolmen were at fault. It wasn’t something that eluded her mind despite her more immediate anger at Rodeo for the carelessness. But she didn’t know the specifics on what had happened and she needed the details.
At the same time, Jadyn couldn’t help but question the authenticity of his words. This was only one side of the story as far as she was concerned. Whatever happened out there, he could spin however he wanted. There was no witness or evidence to rebuke his claim, but there weren’t any viable witnesses or notable evidences to rebuke anything the patrolmen came up on their end either. And she knew that they were going to take action. It would be dumb of them not to. She couldn’t be entirely sure who to trust yet, but she was willing to give Rodeo her due diligence.
He had no reason to lie. Not after all he had done for Gray. But he was a Hellhound and he was a Hellhound with a motive in mind for LBJ. He could have easily taken advantage of the situation for his gain. After all, making the Capitol out to be an enemy, placing all of the fault on them, would benefit him greatly. He wanted the alliance. What better way than slip his way in when the shelter was at its most vulnerable? LBJ was going to need a new leader and it was going to need time to heal from the loss. She had her skepticism on his sincerity.
And she needed a full scope of the situation. What she believed afterward, she would have to figure out later on. She didn’t trust him because she didn’t know him. But she couldn’t side with or trust the Capitol either because she knew what Olinger wanted. She couldn’t ignore what the patrolmen tried to do to Gray when he was at his weakest. None of it was ever going to be forgotten, but she had to be careful and she had to play her cards right – at least until she could be certain who she could actually trust and who she could actually depend on more for the safety of LBJ. At this point, the answer was simple. LBJ was going to have to protect and look out only for itself, and she would be damned before she let it fall into the wrong hands.
“I need to know everything that went down out there today in as specific as a detail you can give me. Then, I’ll decide who I will believe on my own time. You don’t have to sweat yourself about that.”
