"There are monsters everywhere you go, Torrie. Everywhere. There's monsters down here just like there are up there. The only question is what kind of monsters you want to keep company with. The ones down here I can't quite handle anymore. Think I'll try my luck at being alone." Because he really didn't plan on joining a shelter anywhere. He knew she was completely correct, that no one wanted an ex-ghoul in the ranks. But he didn't want to, either way. He wasn't fit for some society, or he didn't think he was.
"I hope things are good for you down here," he said, genuine in the sentiment. He did hope for the best for people. And his absence wouldn't matter, he knew. And even if he didn't generally get along with other ghouls, that didn't mean that he didn't feel like they deserved some shred of happiness, if they could find it.
He just wished they didn't find it with a needle, like they so often did.
He started walking again, hands shoved into his pockets as he made his way through the dark.
