I'm just going to gloss over security because I don't know how it works. :|
"Bode's in town," Bunny repeated, chasing the statement with her own laugh. She really ought to have guessed that those two would end up together. "Well, that explains it, then."
She didn't ask for details, trusting Nate to explain everything later. Not only were they almost at their destination, but Bunny selfishly didn't want to travel down that knife blade just yet. If Austin had some secrets in its shadows, they could delve into it another time.
As Nate parked the truck, Bunny couldn't take her eyes off the Capitol building, though. The dome seemed like an incredible weight to live beneath day in and day out, the kind that might suffocate. Now there was a worry she couldn't let burrow beneath her skin and get a good hold. Instinctively Bunny looked to Nate, seeking his face to ground her, and found him watching her with an expression that reflected the feeling in her own heart. Before she could respond to his words he was out of the truck and grabbing her pack, so she could do nothing but follow. And at his prompting, she reached for both her license and UMCB-issued identification in her jeans pocket.
The giddy haste of their trip was immediately slowed by the routine at security, but then even a five minute delay would have felt like too much, with the way that Bunny longed to be past whatever hoops they needed to jump through. Things would always intrude, but for a little while, at least, she hoped to have Nate to herself. They had two years to make up for, in every possible way, and she was weary with waiting.
Finally, though, they were hand in hand on the other side.
"It's official," Bunny said, keeping her voice low so that it wouldn't travel across the interior of the entrance hall. She looked up at Nate, her expression suffused with joy. “Which way now? I'm tired of sharing you with the world.”
