All Bunny knew about the Capitol was that visitors needed an ID and an invitation to enter. Well, she had the ID and this was more or less an invite, surely. They could worry about the rest later. For now, Bunny was happy to let Nate lead her, his larger hand wrapped warmly around her smaller one.
Without knowing it, she felt the same as Nate about the hurried way their steps carried them out of the hospital: almost like they were running away together. A giddy feeling lodged behind her breastbone at the thought. And the sight of Nate's truck, the same one he'd always driven, cinched it. Bunny let out an involuntary exclamation and reached out to stroke the truck's door as Nate opened it, greeting an old friend.
She couldn't help but sigh, too, when he kissed her, licking her lips to taste the whiskey after he'd pulled away. "I missed you, Nate, every minute. I won't be sorry to let go of that feeling, now that we're together again. This is a better one anyway."
Bunny reached out to him again, tracing the edges of his mustache with her fingertip. They couldn't stay in the street forever, but she stalled anyway, still in awe that he was in front of her.
"I love you," she said, suddenly realizing that she hadn't yet uttered the actual words. There were probably a million other things they needed to talk about, but all she wanted right now was to stop everything else for a little while. "I love you so much. Let's go home."
