Jadyn noticed the shake of her head, but she chose not to push her for details. She respected privacy where it was needed. It wasn’t her business to pry. It also wasn’t uncommon for survivors to find it difficult to settle in the beginning. It was even harder when the shelter was in such a frantic state recently. No time to adjust; swept away by a sudden and unforeseen incident. She wished it could be more peaceful, but she had a feeling that wasn’t going to happen easily. Not until Gray was safely back in the library anyway. They needed their leader. She needed her brother.
“Thank you for offering, Nadia.” It was always nice to hear people wanting to contribute and help out around the shelter. “I’ll tell the Head of Resources to add you to the list of supply scouts. We can use all the help we can get.” She sat back against her chair as she stretched her legs out beneath the desk. “The serial killer case is still underway over at UMCB. I’d rather not risk any of your safety for the sake of supplies. We have enough to last us even if the boys don’t go out.”
It reminded her that she should check in with the Austin Police Department once things settled down. She needed to know how the investigation was progressing. There hadn’t been news of another murder for a while. She was glad for it, but it didn’t help ease any concerns she might have over the killer. No one was safe until he or she was caught. The Capitol and Hellhounds might be a potential threat, but they wouldn’t act rashly. This menace, on the other hand, was a different story. Unchecked. Unpredictable. She didn’t like it at all.
