Like a child who couldn't wait for the cookies fresh from the oven to cool before reaching for one, Bunny couldn't resist trying the temperature of the honey glaze for herself, gently dabbing at it with her finger. And yes, just as JP had warned, it was hot. She hissed slightly and then laughed at herself.
"I never did learn," she said, taking a look at the pad of her finger. No real harm done, thankfully, but at least if she had burnt herself, they were in a hospital. "It used to drive my mom up the walls."
Settling back again to wait for the honey to cool, Bunny took up the thread of conversation again. "North. I think I can remember that name. Thanks for the tip." The message about needing to trade wasn't new information, but it was still good to have it confirmed that Austin worked along similar she'd found elsewhere. Bunny herself didn't mind doing things for free. It always got paid back to her one way or another, even if the return wasn't always apparent.
"So you've always lived in Texas, then? This is my first time here. I didn't travel much, before." Before what, she didn't need to say.
Then, with a small pang of guilt for not sharing her own story when JP had willingly given her some of his, Bunny added, "Kentucky is where I'm from, originally, though I haven't seen it in a couple years now."
However cool the honey was, Bunny decided she was through waiting. It didn't burn her fingers this time, which was a good sign, so she broke off a piece and popped it in her mouth.
"Still a little warm," she said, "but it was worth the risk. You want to try some?" Bunny had left part of the donut on the fork for just that reason. It felt rude to take the whole sample herself.
