Lita hadn't minded Josh lingered a bit on their long-overdue hug; in fact, she welcomed it eagerly. So much of Lita's life was precise and clinical, so the fact that her and Josh's relationship transcended facts and figures and diagrams made her a better person. She was overjoyed to see him.
But it wasn't about her and Josh right now; they'd have their time to catch up. This was a teaching experience and together they'd make sure Nadia would be up and running in no time. Their patient was limping only slightly and addressed them with beautifully-lilted English and a smile. Lita suspected that the ankle hadn't been quite as grievously injured as it could have been, considering she's been hurt about a month ago and taking into account how she was getting around now. She'd hold on to her diagnosis and let Josh show off his stuff.
"You shameless flatterer," Lita stage-whispered to Josh, nudging him with her elbow at his glowing review of her teachings. But because she was a vain creature, she wasn't about to demure. He was as good as he was because of her, at least in part. But as good as she was, he'd never be at the elite level he currently was without his own natural talent and determination. He knew this, she didn't have to tell him; she wasn't effusive with the compliments. But perhaps she could stand to let him know every once in awhile.
"Ms. Costa, thanks for setting a place side for us," Lita said, using Nadia's surname. The decision to not insist on first names as Josh had done was deliberate. She preferred to be addressed by her title and last name during medical procedures; she'd certainly earned the privilege. Josh would be able to do the same in time.
"And don't let this baby face fool you," Lita said with a grin, resisting the urge to pinch Josh's cute cheeks. "He's a beast in the O.R. and a dab hand at diagnosis. He'll get your up and out scouting in no time. Please, after you."
She turned to Josh as Nadia began to lead them to the room she had so thoughtfully reserved for them.
"You got this, brother. This is the kind of stuff you could do in your sleep."
