Maizie felt like she could have pointed out that sharing a room with her dad and his girlfriend was its own special kind of awkward, but that was a place she didn't exactly want to go. Not in front of someone she'd just met, not when Dad was hurt, and maybe not at all.
In a similar but much more interesting vein was whatever was going on between Liv and Josh with the touching and the looks. It made a weird juxtaposition, actually, to be talking about Dad on the one hand, while simultaneously trying to pretend she wasn't watching both of them like a hawk.
"That is weird," Maizie echoed, considering the information Josh had just given her. Hurt like hell, but not as badly as he could've been hurt, by someone who'd actually taken the time to doctor the wounds they'd inflicted. All it told her was that if the person who'd captured Dad had wanted him dead, they would've just killed him, or at least made sure his injuries were mortal. What was to be gained by making him suffer and then letting him go?
Paying only half attention, Maizie followed Josh and Liv out of the social justice wing and into the next room. She mentally rejoined the conversation just in time to catch the end of Liv's comment about college.
"Hey, at least you got to go to college," she said, nudging Liv with an elbow. She didn't like the implication behind her friend's words. "If we're playing who has the least practical knowledge I totally win."
Maizie looked around the room they were in now, trying to figure out if there was anything with pointing out in it. Not really.
"Let's go over to the kitchens. I don't know about you and Josh, but I could do with a snack." With a glance and a grin in Olivia's direction, she added, "Liv always brings back the best stuff, but since she's not scouting at the moment I don't know what we'll find."
