There were so many other ways she wanted to greet him, but none of them seemed appropriate just then. It wasn't even necessarily because of Maizie, either. The nature of the library was just that everyone was up in each other's business, frankly. Olivia didn't want to do anything too eye-catching just then, not while they were within eyesight. (And you were pretty much always within eyesight at the library.)
So she settled for reaching out to run her fingertips along Josh's back, tracing the pattern on his shirt and biting her lip again to hide another smile as they walked towards her wing. And lucky for Maizie that Josh had started talking about how they'd helped Gray, too. Olivia didn't even protest her wing being their first stop.
"Wow," she said, totally impressed by what he had to say about it. "That's really amazing that you were able to help somebody like that." She'd nearly forgotten what Josh had been in school for. It caused her to look at him differently, almost, like he was a real grown-up and she was just a kid playing at being an athlete in a world that didn't need those anymore. "We're really lucky to have you around."
And then they reached her wing and she nodded ruefully. "Eight now, actually. I just had a new one move in. Before the apocalypse they had a lot more stuff here obviously. About inequality and all of that." There were faint remnants on the walls, things that hadn't been painted over or anything. But now it just looked like an enormous bedroom with random walls here and there. "It must be a lot different compared to what you're used to, huh?"
