Who: Liv and Dani
Where: the UMCB cafeteria
What: probably getting on each other's nerves
When: backdated to July 11
In general, Dani was not what you’d call a people person. People were fine, at a distance. Some people, a select few, were even alright closer up. In the overcrowded halls of the UMCB, most of the residents fell into that former category, so Dani made it her mission to interact with as few people as possible on a daily basis. Not that there were many places one could go in the hospital that were really private. Some areas were still restricted to staff only, including a break room, so for the most part Dani stayed there. At least when she was working.
Sometimes, though, she actually found herself wanting to be around other people, almost as if it comforted her to be reminded that they were there. That was why she’d decided to take her lunch break in the cafeteria that day, even if she was sitting on her own, reading a biochem textbook instead of engaging any of the people around her.
Glancing up as she turned a page, Dani felt her good mood sink as she spotted one of those people she definitely preferred at a distance. She’d met Olivia Jensen in another lifetime, when they were both enrolled at UT Austin, and they’d gotten off on the wrong foot right away. The right foot still eluded them.
Maybe if she just ignored the other woman, Olivia would go on her own way and they wouldn’t have to acknowledge each other’s existence today.

Olivia didn't typically head over to the UMBC unannounced, but she'd been feeling especially cramped up over the last couple days. She did have the presence of mind to know that it likely wasn't a lack of outdoor time, since they'd been going out looking for Gray every day. No, it was probably an stress thing, dropping by to see North without giving her a heads up or checking in to see if she was even around.
In retrospect, as she looked around the cafeteria, she probably should've checked with North in advance. Now she was just there at the UMBC without her friend. Great.
She reached for her phone, looking to text her, when she spotted the last person she wanted to have to deal with. And of course, Dani was sitting near the entrance -- and exit -- to the cafetería. Double great.
Olivia turned, hoping that if she made a quick enough exit they wouldn't have to have an interaction, and started on her way out. But then all of a sudden a rush of people came through the only available walkway, crowding her up against Dani's table. Olivia set her jaw and forced a smile. "How's it going?"
--
Naturally it wasn't going to be that easy.
Dani smothered a flash of annoyance as Olivia pressed in, pulling her empty tray aside so it wouldn't get bumped. Olivia would probably accuse her of spilling the thing herself if it got knocked over. Letting her gaze sweep over the other woman from head to toe, Dani felt her face showing her displeasure all too clearly and quickly smoothed the expression away. Even she had to admit that it wasn't Olivia's fault they'd been pressed -- literally -- together.
"Just fine, thank you."
See, it was fine. They could hold a perfectly polite conversation like reasonable adults. And in a moment the crowd would pass and Olivia would be on her way.
"And you? Are you out on a run?"
Hand to God, Dani hadn't meant for the last word to come out that way, but it was too late now.

Apparently Dani was as snobby of a bitch as ever. Olivia's eyebrows furrowed together, her nose crinkling into a look of clear distaste. Some people just could never get over the fact that not everyone liked the same things they did.
"Not today," she said, forcing the annoyed expression off of her face and plastering on a sugary-sweet smile in its stead. It'd been a decent enough guess, though, considering that Olivia had run over to the hospital and was dressed appropriately. "I thought I'd take time off from my busy schedule of supplying my shelter with important resources, things we wouldn't be able to survive without, and visit my friend North."
Of course, she wasn't allowed to scout right then, and things at the Library were all in an upheaval while they continued searching for Gray. But Dani didn't need to know that.
