Gray & Maizie
He has to start with Maizie. She's his baby girl, and of all of them, he's the one he needs to see the most. Although he wishes she isn't seeing him like he knows she will be: covered neck to toe in cloth and boots, and what little skin showed on his face a bruised and bloodied mess. A split lip, a black eye. Looking for all the world like he went about a thousand rounds with one of those punching bag clowns that pops back up, and he lost.
He's just outside his tent, with that prospect watching him, when the girls approach. He's told the prospect the order he needs them: Maizie first, then Vannah, and then Day to help dissipate the anger. He's asked nicely, but he imagines there's tension and heat in his gaze he doesn't mean.
But then his little girl is headed his way. The first thing he does is throw up his hands and holds them out. "Baby girl, you can't touch me, okay?"
Which is as much about the infection as it is--oh. Who is he kidding. It's all about those injuries. Don't touch him so he doesn't have to show how bad he hurts.
