and I don't believe that I'm anything like you
Who: Demi Rafferty and Brannon O’Brien
Where: The hallways of the Austin Police Department.
What: Demi’s meets the famed Deputy Chief.
When: 7/16/18, Afternoon.
Going to the department of Justice still felt wrong to Demi in some way. That place had been where they had held her, had interrogated her and ultimately sentenced her to La Quinta. Yet, in her small realm of existence in the Capitol, visiting Isaac at work was one of those things she had begun to do. Maybe it was to flaunt her freedom in the face of everyone else in that office, or maybe it was out of a genuine desire to be with one human being that seemed to have a small suspicion about her lies. He never came out and out and said anything, but she knew. He wasn’t a stupid man, he had to know that she was using this newfound freedom in some manner. All she hoped was that he never figured out what she was using it for.
Her whole house of cards was crumbling. Her going off on the freenet at Rodeo was proof enough of that. Her almost spilling everything to him, every last lie, that was just another nail in the coffin in terms of how shaky her scheme was. Demi was walking on thin ice and she knew it was only a matter of time until it broke.
Maybe she needed to take the advice she was given. Maybe she needed to give that phone back. There were a lot of ‘maybes’ swirling around in her brain lately. That seemed to be all she did. Spend hours going over and over everything she was doing wrong, because there wasn’t a whole lot she was doing right.
Even going to see Isaac wasn’t right. He shouldn’t have to deal with her anymore than anyone else should. These are all thoughts plaguing her mind as she makes her way through the maze that is the Capitol.
Demi doesn’t know it well, but she knows right about now she’s moving through the area where the Austin Police Department has made it’s home. She tries to ignore most of the cops. Walks through with her head held high, stubbornly ignoring the looks and sometimes the muttered comments about her. Adelaide said the Chief and Deputy Chief were safe people, but Demi’s yet to meet either of them - so she can’t confirm that for herself.
She’s still lost in her own thoughts as she’s brought to a stop in the hallway when a door opens up in front of her. Demi curses under her breath and prepares to sidestep the doorway. Her desire to be avoiding an encounter with one of Austin’s men in blue.
