Her reaction to his words is mostly internal, a fear that creeps through her and wraps its fingers around her heart. Demi wasn’t brought in with Rodeo, thank god. But it still rattles her as the Deputy Chief describes him. He’s on their radar, a fact that scares her more than she’ll ever admit. “There’s a lot of pretty blond Hellhounds,” she replies, attempting to push aside her fear and act as if his words haven’t bothered her. “But I wasn’t brought in with one of them.” Smiley had been a good man, well, in terms of a Dog anyway, he hadn’t deserved what they had done to him in La Quinta.
Demi gives him what might have passed as a smile, if it weren’t for the fact that there’s a little bit of resignation flashing in her dark eyes. “And here I thought I could just start new,” she remarks dryly, well aware that the APD wouldn’t be forgetting her or her name anytime soon. “In all fairness I’m not important, I just happen to have the right connections.” Or the wrong ones, since her connections to the Hellhounds is what had her unjustly arrested in the first place.
Was it awful that she enjoyed the fact that she had taken the Deputy Chief by surprise with her frankness? It probably was, but Demi had never bothered herself with being concerned by things like that. “Alright, O’Brien. And there’s A/C in here?” For the most part the whole place felt a bit like an oven, but that could just be because Demi was used to open skies and space that went on for miles. It doesn’t miss her notice that he buttons a couple of the previously opened buttons, it amuses her that he would care enough to do it. Wasn’t like she was anyone worth impressing, after all.
“Wouldn’t more evidence mean another murder?” Demi asks curiously, hoping beyond hope that this man didn’t truly want more evidence to surface in that manner. It had been weeks now since the last murder, so any evidence from that should have been found by now, right? “Sometimes your hands are tied and you just have to hope nobody else dies while you’re waiting.” She says, no judgment in her tone.
If Demi knew the honest reason for her freedom she would share it. But right now she knows that Isaac is telling her, and while she doesn’t completely distrust him, she still isn’t certain that her freedom isn’t part of some kind of trap to ensnare the Dog King. “I see,” she answers with a laugh. “So, still want to escort me to Isaac’s office?” That had been his original offer and so far she wasn’t getting threatening vibes from him….but he could just be one hell of an actor. “That is, I mean, if I haven’t offended you by this point.”
