"Shot, huh?" Tom raised an eyebrow, giving Grayson's middle a short look since he'd practically been given permission to. There was a lot of muscle there to lose a bullet in, but the guy looked perfectly fine to him. "That must have been bad. Did you get that before all this happened, or after?" Tom had gotten a military vibe from Gray right off when they'd met, and hadn't been surprised to find out the other's background. He was still glad that he hadn't be called out on his lie yet.
And then Grayson sort of did just that. "Don't worry about it," Tom repeated, although it was starting to sound like a good idea to get checked out. Marcus had pretty much suggested the same, but Tom hadn't yet met the nurse that was working the LBJ staff. He didn't know how curious she would be. "Yeah, okay. I guess it can't hurt. Only if she ain't busy though."
When Tom saw Grayson checking his weapons, he mimicked the idea. When his superior picked a gun, Tom settled for the bat, thinking he'd pick up any close-range threats while Gray, who obviously had much more experience, would take the longer range ones. Tom hoped they wouldn't run into much today, though. Swinging the bat would be a bitch with a rack of stitches in his abdominal muscles, and he didn't like resorting to his own gun all the time.
"Nah, I was on foot. Done a lot of running in the past, so it wasn't much for me. Figured you didn't feel like running the entire morning, though. And really, neither do I. It was only supposed to be a half day's trip when I went." He eyed Gray sideways as they walked, figured he should go into more detail. "You guys asked for someone to do a last check on the army's emergency shelter up here last week. Well it ain't worth another look. The files, though..." Tom shrugged. Sometimes other people rushed a job, but Tom was notoriously thorough. "They gave me another address. Their backup station. Looked pretty untouched while I was there." Tom still had the bloodstained map, but hadn't gotten it out yet. So far the exact location was still a secret only he knew. "But like I said, a ghoul snatched the shit from me. So they must know it's out there somewhere, too. We better not get followed, is what I'm saying."
