Who: Sid and Ward Where: The Slaughtered Lamb What: Scavenging, stumbling on things that aren't theirs When: Let's say forward dated to Saturday?
In the weeks following the blob-rain, Sid had made a point to get out whenever possible. Rain, shine, 110 degree roaster, mild sandstorm--not much could discourage him. Anyway, who knew when some other weather catastrophe might keep him locked indoors again? And if he didn't enjoy being cooped up, he was certain it was bad for Ward, who'd already spent time actually locked up. Being cooped for extended periods of time couldn't be good for him. And ever since that girl had been found, he wasn't too keen on giving anyone any opportunity to suspect Ward of anything untoward. It wasn't that he thought Ward had anything to do with it, because he absolutely didn't, it was more that he didn't want anyone else to have reason to think that. So, any time Sid went out, he took Ward with him. While the air quality obviously wasn't the greatest, that the opportunities to die increased exponentially when leaving the hospital to scavenge, a little "fresh" air would do the both of them good.
Also, to be fair, Ward was a stunning lookout, pretty good with a gun, and no one but Ward was quite so good at putting Sid at ease when it came to facing down zombies and keeping an eye out for Ghouls or Hellhounds. What were brothers for? It was on one of these little adventures out into the wilds of Austin that the pair stumbled upon something interesting. Or at least, it looked interesting. Most of the time places full of perishables (delis, butcher shops, etc) were a bit of a turn off for Sid as far as scavenging went. They usually smelled of so much rot, making a scavenge particularly unpleasant, but the thought that they might pick up a few good knives or maybe a cool sign (the place was called The Slaughtered Lamb after all, how metal was that?) was enough to draw them in. They didn't get very far into the scavenge before Sid came across the walk-in freezer. Normally he would have ignored it. If it hadn't been for the lock, he would have walked on by with the assumption it was full of rotten meat. Nothing to see there.
But that lock, though.
"Hey Ward!" He shouted to his brother in the other room "You know how to pick locks?"
