It was weird being part of a community again. North had spent well over a month on her own traveling down from Ohio all the way to Texas after the... incident. Now, she was suddenly back to an almost normal life (or as normal a life as a zombie apocalypse would allow). The hospital was a decent setting. It was big enough for her to maintain her privacy, yet small enough that any contributions she made felt like they were helping. And she wanted to help. She wanted something to do to keep her mind off of things.
Volunteering to scout for food and supplies was an easy decision. She was used to it by now and she wasn’t afraid to venture out on her own. Actually, she kind of liked it and it felt almost a little funny how quickly she’d become accustomed to independence. She guessed it was probably a good thing since she was going to have to get used to it. Being alone didn’t feel so much as a choice but a necessity now – and she wasn’t exactly going to complain.
She was still getting the hang of the landscape, but she didn’t mind exploring the streets. It didn’t take her long to figure out that searching for food was easier if she went further out since a lot of the stores closer to the shelters had already been emptied. Even though it might not have been the best idea to venture too far out on her own, she didn’t see any harm to it either. It wasn’t like she wasn’t used to danger popping out of freaking nowhere, so she gave herself the greenlight to go out even further today. As she navigated her way down the boulevard on her board, North finally stopped in front of a grocery store. It looked like a good place to fill up her backpack.
Strapping her skateboard onto her back, she entered the premises cautiously. Both her rifle and hunting knife were at the ready if anything decided to jump out at her. Of course, that didn’t happen. She just found some dude in a chair. Her eyebrow rose as she regarded him and then the magazine near her feet. What was that – Cosmo? Well, either way, he didn’t seem like the type of guy she should bug especially since her last encounter with a stranger in a grocery store hadn’t exactly rung safe. “Uh, yo,” she gave an awkward two-finger salute before she jerked her thumb towards one of the aisles on the left, “I’ll just be over there, so you keep doing you, bro.”
