He really did seem intent on learning. If she had any doubts about his initial motive, they were gone by now. He was focused, patient, and looked like he would get the hang of the board pretty easily. She snapped out of her thoughts once she’d heard his questions and her smile grew at his interest. “Tony Hawk,” she corrected, rocking back slightly on the heels of her Converse shoes, “But, yeah, he can do grinds, kickflips, and ollies. I can do most of those tricks. Probably not as awesome as he can, but I was working on it. I’d liked to test out new moves of my own too.”
Not that she had bothered doing any of that in a while. Now, her skateboard was strictly for travel. She didn’t have much spirit left in her to want to play around on it especially since she could be spending her time with more productive endeavors (like scouting for food and supplies). She also didn’t want to bang it up too much. Tucking one of her hands into the pocket of her jeans, North continued to watch him for a moment before she suggested, “When you feel ready, why don’t you try bending your knees and jumping around a little? Or just bouncing?”
