Marcus laughed in response to the joke, but for all he knew the guy was being sincere. The town he'd grown up in had been small, and he hadn't done much traveling outside of the Southwest. There hadn't been much to entice travelers to his neck of the woods, and it wasn't as though he'd been asking to see passports. Marcus wouldn't have been able to clock a Welshman by look or accent alone, so he wasn't too bothered by it. He made a sweeping gesture towards some mismatched folding chairs set up nearby, far enough from the bonfire to leave room for revelry. "Heh. No, not a fucking doctor. Enfermera. But close enough. Sounds like you got the one other decent medic they got around here. Lucky shit. Sorry I wasn't there."
It might have been a cocky thing to say, but there was a hint of genuine apology in his tone, as though Marcus felt like he should have been there to help patch up the stranger. He wasn't even entirely sure when Teagan and the others had dragged the man in, so it was possible he hadn't been in the camp at the time. No fault of his if he'd been indisposed, and it wasn't like the kid -- Josh -- was a shitty medic. But the kid was a kid, in Marcus's eyes. Barely old enough to drink, let alone stitch up wounds. Marcus had a decade's worth of experience on him, for whatever that was worth, and he felt that came with some responsibility.
When they reached the chairs, Marcus didn't wait for Griff to sit before claiming one for himself. If he'd been the one injured, he wouldn't have wanted someone standing watch over him while he sat down, and Marcus took a do unto others approach to socializing. They'd seen some hard use, these chairs, but were holding strong; the one beneath him made a creak of protest at his weight, but didn't even threaten to buckle as he got comfortable.
"Could give you something stronger," Marcus offered, putting his phone away in the outer most pocket of his shoulder bag before rooting around for the promised bottle. "Not a great idea to wash that shit down with booze, though. Fucks you right up."
