Who: Ryan McCormick & Sasha Whittaker
When: 4/5/20, afternoon
What: Closure, and a decision to still be in each other's lives.
RYAN: Hey, is this a good time? SASHA: Yeah, sure. What's up? RYAN: Just wanted to make sure we were still on for the movie this weekend? SASHA: [nods and then realizes that Ryan can't see him.] Yeah, I mean I was still planning on it. RYAN: Okay, cool. I can go ahead and get the tickets if you want. SASHA: Sure. Did we want to grab dinner or something before hand? RYAN: Yeah, sure. One of the places over there? SASHA: Sure, unless you want to eat in the Greenbelt district, which if that's the case then we'll be eating at Burgatory. [laughs.] Something tells me you probably don't want your staff to start talking talking though... RYAN: [he laughs, too.] No, that would maybe be a bit awkward. Plus, if you can believe it, I get sick of burgers too, sometimes. But only sometimes. SASHA: [smiles slightly, his tone teasing as he says] Careful, you don't know who could be listening in. [pauses.] Maybe we could try the Italian place that just opened? RYAN: [another laugh, before:] Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. I've been wanting to go. SASHA: [grins.] In that case we have to go now. RYAN: Okay, great. Sounds like a plan. SASHA: Great. [pauses while he considers the question he wants to ask.] So, ah, for clarity's sake is this a 'We're hanging out as friends thing'? Or a date? RYAN: [he's surprised by the question, even though considering their history, he shouldn't be.] I, um. ... I don't know. What do you want it to be? SASHA: We haven't really talked about dating, not since I said I'd give you time. [pauses.] I'm not against it, but I'm also cool with it just being as friends. Do you want it to be a date? RYAN: Honestly, I don't know. [There's regret in his tone as he speaks:] I really like you, it's just... Everything is still so weird over here. I would like it to be a date. I just don't know if I'm ready yet. SASHA: [tries to sound encouraging when he speaks.] Hey, hey, nobody says you have to be ready for that yet. I mean I like you, I really do. But I’m not going to pressure you for anything. If you’re not ready, you’re not ready and I support that. [pauses.] If what you need is a friend than that’s what I’ll be for you. Because, I mean, this is going to sound super cheesy but I’d rather have your friendship and not like not have you in my life at all. RYAN: [quickly, and obviously relieved:] Good, I mean... I hate having to keep being like this, but I just don't want to be unfair to you. And I really appreciate you saying that. I really like having you in my life, too. SASHA: [grins despite the fact Ryan can't see him.] Hey, you needing to sort shit out isn't unfair to me, or at least I don't think it is. It's not like you've asked me to wait for you or anything. Like if I met someone I think you'd be chill and if you met someone I'd be chill with it. So we're agreed, we like having each other in our lives and friendship totally ranks above all else. RYAN: Yeah, I think that all sounds good. [he pauses, thinking through everything, before saying:] So I'll see you this weekend? SASHA: [there's a note of relief in his voice over how well the conversation had gone.] Yeah, agreed. [there's a beat.] You can count on it. See you then, if not before. RYAN: [he smiles] Okay, see you then. |
