One (8 left; 4 in the shop, 4 outside, 2 stopped vehicles)
The only thought that even broke through his focus was ‘shit’ as he realized that the man and his dog were moving in his direction. In what felt like a nanosecond Bishop had to decide if he thought this man was friend or foe. He was running from Duggar’s guys which could mean a whole list of things, but the enemy of my enemy is my friend, right? So in that moment he made the call, decided not to fire on the guy, instead focusing on the men in hot pursuit of him.
He fired off two rounds, both missing there intended targets. He cursed under his breath as he set up another shot.
One he didn’t have a chance to take as he became acutely aware of the dog quickly approaching him. Bishop took only a moment to glance down at the creature. No attack came and so his gaze slide back up to the gunfire and chaos still erupting outside of the alleyway. Rifle still fixed on the nearest goon.
Yet he still never got a chance to take that shot. Gunfire rained down on the opening of the alleyway, forcing Bishop to retreat further into the darkest of his hiding place and watch as the mystery man’s course was changed, taking refuge inside of the abandoned barber shop.
Bishop was on his feet then, sliding the strap of his rifle over his head and exchanging it for the Colt .45 hidden underneath his cut. This wasn’t his war, but it also wasn’t in him leave a man to die - especially not at the hands of one of Duggar’s goons.
His steps were quick, the raiders focus was squarely on the man inside the shop. Surprise was in his favor. And then a voice, female and familiar hissed into the darkness and Bishop felt his blood run cold.
“Fuck,” was his own answering hiss. “Adelaide?” The Hellhounds Chaplain kept forward movement until he could make out a figure in the relative darkness of the alleyway.
Of all the people who should have been here. She was not one of them. If his goal had been to keep Teagan from getting herself killed, it seemed he had found himself another woman to make sure came out of this in one piece. Duggar’s guys wouldn’t care if she was a bystander, they didn’t draw any sort of lines when it came to who they would and wouldn’t hurt.
“What the hell are you doing here?” Bishop growled, all matters of scenarios flashing through his brain as to what could happen to her here. None of them even remotely comforting.
His mistake was letting his focus slip away from the fight and the goons for even that nanosecond, because while his concern had fallen onto the Dog King’s sister, one of Duggar’s men had entered the alleyway and clued into the fact that it was not empty.
“Shoulda guessed the mutts would come running to a fight,” The man sneered, charging Bishop as he spoke. The smaller man collided into Bishop, failing to bring him down to the ground, but accomplishing knocking the Colt out of his hand. The two grappled to make solid contact with the other, until Bishop managed to slam his elbow into the other man’s ribs. This freed him for the other man’s hold and he ducked behind him to throw an arm around the goon’s neck. This action cut off the man’s airway and Bishop stayed that way until the man went limp against him.
“Always come to fights we know we’ll win,” Bishop remarked to the now limp man as he let the body drop to the ground. The man’s eyes were upon and unfocused, confirming he was one less raider they had to worry about now.
Locating his gun in the dim alleyway, he retrieved it from the ground and doubled back to where Adelaide was. His expression serious as he met her gaze. “For the record these guys don’t care if you’re a goddamn bystander, they’ll kill you anyway.”
