The car exploded. Teagan watched it as if it was in slow motion hitting the brick and then erupting. She turned and leapt just in time to miss the fireball but she could hear some of her hair sizzle when she landed, the unmistakable stench of singe hair wafting like a late day BBQ.
It was ecstasy to step out of her own thoughts and be here, present in the now. The adrenaline was pounding inside of her, pulsing at her temples and when two of the men caught sight of her from the back seat of one of the cruisers that had been circling the man of the minute she gave them a dirty little grin and a middle finger. They knew exactly who she was and she watched them, like a clown act, rimming around and around the truck, pointing at her and arguing at the driver. The driver was pointing at the truck and at the man who was escaping.
Even from her vantage point she could practically see the heavy language dropping out of their mouths like lead and before they had the sense to start shooting she took aim, trying for one of the tires but missed, hitting the rim instead. The vehicle slowed down anyway and the biggest one was pushed out. He'd done this a time or two before because when he landed he rolled behind an stranded Buick. Her rifle was traded for the convenience of her pistol, then she bolted for it, running and skidding behind a cement traffic barrier.
When she dared to peek out it was a hand that grabbed her by the neck and picked her up into the air, “Morgan….” the voice growled as he squeezed and not losing her mind, she fired her gun into the big guys stomach. He let her go and she landed in a crouch before rising and then kicking out his kneecap. When he landed on the other knee with a scream she watched his eyes land on something behind her and when she turned to see who was coming she felt the graze of the bullet on her cheek. A quick and solid elbow was jolted into the fallen lugs nose, the crunch of bone echoed and then she was running in a zig zag, eluding more gunfire until she found a quick respite in an alley.
