Vic, Noa, & Marina after dinner
"Y'all, uh." He didn't even know what to ask what he wanted. "I never heard of something like this" -- an awkward gesture between the three of them with his hands. "Don't really know what I'm doing."
Marina couldn’t help but smirk, suppressing the amused smile that threatened to spill out at how adorably stupid Vic was about all this relationship stuff. Monogamy wasn’t something Marina had ever really practiced before Vic, so it wasn’t like this was a shock to her. Though this was definitely different because before it had mostly been just sex when she was with people besides Emmanuel. But now, with Vic and Noa, it was like… how could she have so many feelings about both of them without her brain exploding? It had been overwhelming enough when it was just Vic.
“Twenty bucks says that when Max finds out he makes some fucked up sister-wives joke,” Marina said, gently easing them away from Vic’s lack of articulation on this situation. “You know, if you guys even want Max to find out.”
"And there's Sasha, too," Vic added. He'd spent a fair amount of time thinking about how to even bring up the subject with him. "Is that gonna make work weird for him, do you think?"
“I couldn’t tell you,” Noa answered with a shrug. “But I’m beyond keeping secrets from people. They only hurt in the long run.” Even though she couldn’t imagine saying anything, she didn’t want to inadvertently create some kind of wedge.
“He’s an adult. They’re both adults.” She glanced towards where Sasha and Max were. “I suppose it’s only fair to let them make their own decisions on how they feel about things.”
Vic followed her gaze, looking at the rest of the small crowd who'd gathered for his birthday. He felt pretty damned lucky to have them all, even Sasha's random friend/date. Noa was right: they'd have to find out sooner or later, and Vic couldn't control how they would react. He couldn't let that get in the way of sharing something like this with his family.
"We should tell them, then," he said, and just like that it seemed like things were decided.
Looking between Noa and Vic, Marina bit the corner of her lip, suppressing a smile. She was never the type to need anyone else’s validation or approval, but she knew that this step in telling Max and Sasha was a big one for the three of them. For the past few months they’d been in a kind of limbo, enjoying each other’s company but not putting a label on anything. As much fun as sneaking around was, it would feel good to be more open about the relationship that was developing.
“Whenever you think is the right time, then,” Marina replied, her smile widening just slightly.
“You know them best,” Noa added, her smile mirroring Marina’s when she looked at Vic. “We’ll follow your lead.” Even if they didn’t always seem to be the best at verbalizing things, she was confident they would be able to live through telling Max and Sasha.
