11:30AM - Vic and Kāne
It had been a good brunch, as far as Kāne was concerned. There had been no fighting, at least not yet, and the food had been amazing. Breakfast was one of those things he didn't always spend much time on, but when it was being made for him, and others, in such spectacular fashion he wasn't about to say no. So maybe he'd had seconds, and multiple cups of coffee, and had found his way back toward the food after all the discussions had concluded and everyone was wandering around again. To his credit, he hadn't actually had a doughnut yet, so it was like dessert. Breakfast dessert.
Cup of coffee in one hand, Boston creme in the other, he leaned against the wall and looked over everything else that was happening, keeping an eye on his soldiers in case any of them decided to step out of line. There'd been a fair amount of instruction for them to not, but he knew better than to assume they wouldn't if something happened.
"Hey," Vic said, stepping up to him with a glass of orange juice. In his other hand was half a breakfast burger on a plate, which he set on an empty space at the half-cleared buffet table. He'd instantly recognized the big man as the soldier who'd been with him, Isaac, and Savannah's brother when the two of them had gotten bitten, but he'd never known his name or been able to thank him for helping out with someone a friend cared a lot about.
"Think I know you from a few months ago." He extended his free hand out to him. "My name's Vic."
Kāne glanced over as the other man approached, raising his mug in greeting as he finished up the last bite he’d taken of his doughnut. He did recognize him, despite that particular day and event being somewhat of a blur of mess and hurry. They’d all gotten out of it, that was the important part. Many others hadn’t.
“Yeah, you look familiar,” he said, shaking his hand firmly. “Kāne. You have a good time with all this?” he asked, gesturing to the room filled with people still milling about. “The food was way better than what I normally have this time of day.”
"Yeah, it ain't bad." It was kind of an understatement; Vic didn't exactly put all that much effort into breakfast most days, but he wasn't about to start complaining about what they'd gotten, even if it meant having to tolerate so much time with cops and soldiers. Still, he had some kind of common ground with this one, so he didn't immediately turn to leave after the introduction. "Wish they'd do this every day at The Bar."
“You like hanging out with us that much?” Kāne asked jokingly, despite knowing that was almost certainly not what Vic had meant. “No, I know what you mean. Having a place to go for breakfast where you know the food’ll be worth eating, that'd be great. Doughnuts are good, but not exactly… sustaining.”
"I think they're opening a place up like that soon." Vic shrugged a shoulder as he finished the rest of his juice, then set it aside. "Me and some of the other guys work construction so we kinda got an ear to what's going on. Probably not like you guys have it but it's kinda nice seeing all the new businesses opening up."
