9:45 AM - Jane and Bishop
Even if he was just digging himself one hell of a grave, at least he could say he tried with Jane. That's what this whole shindig was about, right? Trying to mend fences Bishop wasn't even entirely certain could be mended. Still, he had to applaud Nina for attempting this. It made him wonder though, if the Hellhounds were under different leadership would they have been here today? Or would they all be sitting in jails with the men who had gone rogue? That wasn't a thought he was going to delve into today, not when he needed to focus all his energy on making a good impression and hopefully convincing the men and women in The Bar that the members of the MC could change, and had.
Jane rolled her eyes again but the gesture wasn’t wholly negative. She knew he was trying. Somehow Jane appreciated the effort just as much as she resented it.
“Nina’s got a bad habit of collecting blue eyed blonds for this council,” she said at last, her tone indicating she wasn’t totally without humor. “Maybe she’s got a type.” It wasn’t a joke per say but it wasn’t an attack to Coldiron either. It was a start.
A soft chuckle rumbled out of Bishop at the remark about Nina collecting blond and blue eyed types for her council. “Maybe she does,” he replied with a faint upturn of his mouth. “Though I reckon you wouldn’t miss having one less blonde and blue eyed type seated at that table.” Jane didn’t disagree but at least she had the restraint and decency not to voice it aloud. Bishop didn’t intend to start something with his remark, it was just an honest assessment, or maybe an acknowledgment that he knew Jane put forth a lot of effort in being okay with him holding a seat on the city council the way he did and it hadn’t gone unnoticed by him.
Jane looked beyond Coldiron to where Isaac and Bunny held his twins. They were beautiful boys; healthy and happy and perfect in every way. It made her sad to think she might never have children of her own. She may be shitty at a lot of things but being a mother, well...Jane knew she could do that. She wanted to. And now Bunny was a mother of sorts. It was sort of bittersweet to watch her with the boys but once Jane started, she found it hard to look away.
“I like your kids,” Jane said, unable to help herself. There was no hidden meaning or underlying nastiness to her comment. She offered it in complete seriousness and honesty. “Bunny’s a natural with them. Somehow I always knew she’d be good with children.”
At the mention of his kids Bishop’s gaze followed Jane’s line of sight and he couldn’t hide the proud smile that appeared. “Thank you,” he began, pulling his gaze back to the blonde before him. “My opinion is damn biased but I like to think they’re pretty great,” Bishop added, allowing his blue eyes to slip back over to study Bunny, his proud smile morphed into something else, a fondness around the edges that couldn’t be missed. “She is,” the words weren’t murmured, but spoken softer than anything else he had said. “I reckon fate always meant for Hazel to be their mama once their own wasn’t around anymore.” Jane, who held no affection for Coldiron’s missing baby mama nor Bunny’s AWOL fiance, held her tongue. To say what she really thought of Teagan Morgan and Nate whatever the fuck his name was would be cruel in this instance, considering they were both MIA and presumed dead. Jane could be as heartless as the best of them but today she chose not to be. She didn’t think that could be interpreted as he her turning soft. Just...not as much of an asshole as she could have been.
