Two days out of quarantine and Kitty could tell that Zach still wasn’t comfortable with her being too far away, and admittedly neither were the kids. So when she and Bea concocted their plan for a girl’s night sleepover, it went without question it would be spent in the new house that Bea had helped Zach set up while she had been away. The new house -- much like almost everything else -- took some getting used to. Kitty was excited, thrilled even, but it felt like so much had happened in that span of time when she had been waiting to see if she would suddenly have an urge to eat brains or not. She could have sworn that Gigi had grown three inches since the middle of September and Miah’s vocabulary had expanded. Of course neither were likely true. But when she had been away from them so long, every little thing seemed like a big thing. Nevermind the fact that sometimes she still questioned if ten days really was the “all clear” time period, or if she might suddenly turn while at home with her kids. That was a thought she often tried to brush aside as a stupid concern. Many people she knew had gone through the ten day quarantine and had been confirmed immune. This was a proven thing. Which meant she shouldn't worry about it. Thank god Bea was set to arrive any moment and distract her from her unfounded worries. While she waited for the arrival of her best friend, Kitty was busying herself in the kitchen, making popcorn and gathering other snacky items they may want while they had their movie night and sleepover. The kids were already in bed -- even if they had insisted on three stories and not the typical one they usually got -- and Zach (bless his heart) had said he could make himself scarce to give her and Bea a chance to truly catch up. It almost (finally) felt like things were shifting back to normal, a fact that struck Kitty that much more as she heard a telltale knock at the door. “Come in,” she called knowing that the person who came through the door wouldn't be someone coming to check on her vitals, but someone she actually wanted to see. That alone was so very different from the way she had spent the past month. Barely needing the invitation (because she was totally that friend who made herself at home when at a friend’s), Bea let herself into the house and headed towards the smell of popcorn, sure that she would find Kitty there. And true enough, she did. She was already dressed in her pajamas and had her backpack on, filled with all the boring stuff like her toothbrush and clothes for tomorrow, but also with some fun surprises that were going to make this girl’s night their best one yet. Grinning and letting out an excited squeak, Bea slid her backpack off before practically running over to Kitty, wrapping her arms around the other girl. “I know this isn’t the first time I’ve said this but I’m going to keep saying it until we both get sick of it, but oh my God I’m so happy that you’re okay and I’m pretty much never letting you out of my sight from now until forever.” The hug lingered even after Bea had said her bit, enjoying being able to touch her friend and confirm that she was real and healthy and whole. But all good things had to come to an end, so reluctantly Bea pulled back. “This all smells bomb. Do we need to make anything else still or can we go to your room? I’m totally ready to get my cuddle on with you and binge on popcorn and watch movies all night.” Kitty had returned the hug with as much force and excitement as Bea had displayed. After days spent wondering if she would ever physically see or touch any of her loved ones again, Kitty was soaking up every last opportunity to do just that. “Oh my god, seriously you can keep saying it because I'm so, so happy I'm standing right here.” She exclaimed, giving her friend a final squeeze before they parted. “You should taste the brownies I made,” she began as a wicked smirk toyed around the edges of her mouth as she added. “They're practically orgasmic.” Kitty couldn't help but giggle, feeling both silly and giddy -- Bea’s own happy mood definitely rubbing off on her. “Yeah?” Bea asked, a suggestive smirk appearing on her face. “Are they sweet and moist?” For some reason that word always sounded so dirty when she said it but seeing as she was really talking about eating something else that was sweet and moist… well, it seemed fitting. “They are,” Kitty replied with a knowing little smirk as she gathered up the remaining items that needed to be brought upstairs. Once they were in her hands, Kitty slipped by Bea and with her free hand grabbed her friend’s to lead her to the bedroom. “C’mon, I want to change and spend the rest of the night cuddling.” Once they were upstairs and the bedroom door was closed, Bea slipped off her backpack and helped Kitty set their treats onto the desk. It was quite a spread, but honestly, Bea was more focused on her friend. She had just promised not to let her out of her sight, so stepping in closer, Bea’s hand came to rest on Kitty’s waist, playing with the hem of her shirt. “Want some help?” “I think you know the answer,” Kitty replied with a coy smile as she lifted her arms up so Bea could pull her shirt up and off. There was a flicker of hesitation as she remembered the still fresh scar from where the zombie child had bitten her. She wasn’t ashamed of it, she didn’t even resent it, but she worried how Bea might react to the new mark. A mark that was there on her left side, just above her hipbone. Of all the people in her life, her best friend knew every mark and scar on her body just about as well as Kitty herself did. She honestly didn’t know what she might do if Bea recoiled from her -- even if she knew it was because of the sight of the scar and not because of Kitty herself. Bea’s fingertips traced over the healing bite as she gave Kitty a reassuring smile. “Hey, it’s okay. This isn’t anything to be ashamed of. This is just proof that you’re a strong, badass bitch. I mean, I’ve known that all along because you’re my best friend and I Iove you,” she smiled wider and moved her arm further around Kitty’s waist until Bea could pull her closer in a hug. “You know you’re still as beautiful as ever, right?” Kitty shivered as Bea’s fingers traced over her still healing bite, but whatever little worry or concern had been nipping at her’s heels dissipated the moment Bea spoke and pulled her in closer. Reflexively she slide her arms around the other girl, pressing into her best friend as she nodded. “You’re the best and I love you,” Kitty began, leaning forward and pressing a quick kiss to Bea’s cheek. “And yeah, I mean I know that, but it really doesn’t hurt to actually hear someone say it,” she answered with a small grin, knowing that there was absolute honesty in what had just been said of her. “I mean I don’t hate the mark, it’s my badge of honor. I just don’t know how other people will respond…” Kitty was in fact not trying to bring down the mood of the evening. “God, I shouldn’t worry about it now though, since obviously the person I am with isn’t weirded out by it,” she continued, as a wicked gleam returned to her gaze. “Now though are we going to focus on my scar or on removing the rest of my clothing?” Kitty’s fingers had slide up underneath the hem of Bea’s shirt and she drew lazy designs on her friend’s skin while she waited for a reply. Giggling, Bea pressed a kiss against Kitty’s cheek and gave her a squeeze before pulling back slightly, taking in the sight of her friend. “Hey now, I thought I was taking off your clothes. Not the other way around,” she grinned, her fingertips dipping below the waist of Kitty’s jeans. “Unless we’re turning this into a no clothes party for all participants, which I am not opposed to,” Bea added, as she began to work on the button of the jeans. “You’re never opposed to a no clothes party,” Kitty replied with a giggle, her tone fond as her hands crept higher up Bea’s back, a mischievous grin toying at the edges of her mouth. “Are you choosing now as when you’re going to change that?” As Bea undid the button of her jeans and pushed them down off her hips, the denim pooling around her feet, Kitty didn’t break contact. Instead she nimbly stepped out of them, kicking them off to the side to lay in a pile with her discarded shirt. Kitty shivered slightly now that she stood in only her bra and panties, though she couldn’t pinpoint if it was because of the air against her newly exposed skin or because of the anticipation of what might happen. “If you want me to take my clothes off, all you have to do is ask,” Bea laughed as she quickly pushed her shorts off and then pulled her top off as well. “So now what? Because I brought a movie to watch but if you want a little action before that, I could totally be persuaded,” Bea continued, now that she was just as undressed as Kitty. There was mischief in Kitty’s hazel eyes as she remarked, “Where would the fun have been in simply asking you?” before she pulled her bottom lip between her teeth as if she were pondering the options for a moment, expression thoughtful before she finally spoke again. “We do have all night to watch the movie,” she began, “So just how much persuading would I need to do?” Kitty let her hands roam as she spoke, fingertips ghosting over her best friend’s back in lazy patterns before one hand stopped to hover at the clasp on her bra. “Oh, fuck it, I’m already convinced,” Bea laughed, leaning in to capture Kitty’s lips in a kiss. As much as she enjoyed kissing guys, there was something so much softer and sweeter about girls and especially about Kitty. A lot of people saw her as an ice queen or a bitch, but Bea got to see the real her, especially in moments like this. She liked being in on the secret. Kitty laughed into the kiss and leaned into Bea as her friend moved closer. “You were convinced before clothes even started coming off,” she murmured against Bea’s mouth, all of her inhibitions and the facades she was so used to putting up gone when it was just the two of them. Bea had always seen her, from the very first moment they met her best friend had cut right through the “act”. She had won her over that way, enjoying the ease that came with being with Bea, both as a friend and in moments like this. Hands roaming from Kitty’s waist, down to her ass, Bea slipped both hands beneath her panties and squeezed at her bare skin, pressing their hips together. “Although maybe I should have let you make your case since you’re little Miss Lawyer now.” A pleased noise escaped out of her as Bea’s hands roamed and whatever little space still existed between them was lost. “Too late now,” Kitty remarked with a smirk as she undid the clasp on Bea’s bra and slid the straps off her shoulders, with Bea reluctantly moving her hands away long enough for Kitty to finish pushing the garment all the way off. “Just trust me that my case would have been compelling and you wouldn’t have been able to say no, Miss Doctor.” She punctuated her words with another kiss, this one deeper and more heated than the one before. With her hands already on Kitty’s ass, Bea grabbed at the elastic of her panties and started pushing them down until they pooled at the blonde’s feet. “Oops,” Bea whispered against Kitty’s mouth as her hands continued to wander, starting to make their way over the soft skin of Kitty’s thighs and towards what was between them. She wasn’t in a rush though, so her fingers never lingered at any place for too long. The build up was most of the fun, anyway. With soft gasps, Kitty felt like each place Bea touched had an electric current through it as her fingertips mapped out patterns along her thighs, inching closer to where she wanted them before they retreated again. “God, I missed you,” Kitty murmured breathlessly as one hand settled at the small of Bea’s back, the other roamed, fingertips exploring the curves and lines of her friend’s back before she shifted just enough to reach between them and cup Bea’s breast, fingertips circling her nipple before Kitty rolled it gently between her thumb and index finger. “Bed?” Kitty asked with a coy smile and a questioning look as she moved just enough to meet Bea’s gaze again. With a nod from Bea, the girls moved to the bed. The rest of their clothing fell to the floor as Bea’s wandering hands continued to roam over Kitty’s body until they were both naked and wanting. Bea had missed Kitty while she’d been in quarantine, and every kiss and touch told her friend just how much. It wasn’t just the sex that she’d missed, but touching Kitty and making her feel this way was the easiest way that Bea knew how to tell her. After all, didn’t actions speak louder than words? Kitty returned the favor in kind, and once both of them were sated, Bea flopped down onto the bed, her breathing uneven. With a quiet giggle, Bea rolled over to her side and kissed Kitty’s shoulder. “In case you couldn’t tell, I missed you too,” she said, shifting slightly and pressing her lips to Kitty’s cheek. “Want to watch the movie now? I borrowed Legally Blonde from Maizie. I thought it would be a good get-out-of-quarantine-slumber-party surprise.” With her breathing still uneven, Kitty laughed softly. “You missed me?” She asked with a teasing glint in her hazel eyes. “I couldn’t tell one bit.” Kitty tacked on with a soft giggle as she threw one leg over Bea’s, tangling them all up and more than content to stay just like that for the rest of the evening. Of course being in isolation for a month had left her feeling more than a little lonely, but that wasn’t why she was completely and utterly happy in this moment, or why she had enjoyed the sex with Bea so much. It was the fact that this could happen again, that she hadn’t died in that room in quarantine that made Kitty appreciate both her best friend and the fact that they could have moments like these still -- moments when they could convey how deeply they cared for each other, not just with words, but with touches and actions that screamed a million words that neither had to vocalize. “Hmmm,” Kitty hummed as Bea’s question filtered its way through her blissed out happiness. “You couldn’t have picked a more perfect movie,” she remarked with a laugh. “Since I didn’t die, I really want to take this whole lawyer thing more seriously!” Kitty admitted as she propped herself up on her elbows and looked at Bea. “It’s like you just knew that…” she added, narrowing her eyes at her friend as if she were trying to determine if Bea had known. “So yes, let’s absolutely watch the movie now.” Bea feigned innocence and shrugged, but that was short lived and her face shifted to a grin instead. It really hadn’t been some secret motivating factor in borrowing the movie, but she couldn’t act like she didn’t know about Kitty’s career aspirations. In her mind, it was just two details lining up perfectly. The look that flickered across Kitty’s features as Bea shrugged was one of both complete amusement at the innocent act and absolute fondness for her friend. Even if it truly hadn’t been her goal, she was pleased by the choice in movies -- almost as much as she was pleased to have Bea’s undivided attention for the whole evening. It was rare when they got moments like this anymore, life haven’t kind of pressed in and shifted after they had moved out of Fox Grove. Kitty didn’t miss the school, but she did miss the relaxed schedule that had allowed for more quality time. As much as Bea didn’t want to move away from Kitty, she untangled their limbs and moved to her backpack to fish out the DVD. Once it was all set up and playing, Bea moved back into the bed, cuddling back up next to Kitty and pulling the comforter up to snuggle into. “Do you think they’ll reopen the law school at UT Austin?” She asked, her hand moving under the blankets to grab Kitty’s and lace their fingers together. Bea was only gone for a few moments, but even so Kitty made a content noise once her best friend was cuddled back up next to her again. “Honestly, I don’t know,” she began, her thumb swiping over the top of Bea’s hand in slow circles. “Maybe? I don’t know who would teach there right now. Most of the lawyers in the city are busy working in the Capitol in the Department of Justice…” there was a pause. “It might be hard to learn from someone else when I’ve been able to have a front row seat to truly talented lawyers doing their thing.” Kitty might have been biased, but she did believe that her boss was one of the best lawyers in Austin and she was privileged to work with him and for him. “Yeah, I totally get that,” Bea agreed, silent for a moment as she got entranced by the movie before focusing again and continuing, “I mean, I’ve been doing all this stuff with Pete for months and I think if I didn’t have the hands on experience and had just been learning in a classroom, I would be freaking the fuck out, like, even more, about Pete and some of the other doctors being in quarantine and bed rest. So watching the legal system up close is probably a better teacher than a book.” Kitty pulled her attention away from the movie to look at Bea. “Oh god, I can’t even imagine how completely terrifying it might be for you if you hadn’t already had hands on experience at the hospital,” she began. “And yeah, I mean reading about the legal system is one thing, but watching it first hand and being able to ask questions of lawyers I think is a much better teacher.” Kitty took another pause, thinking about just how their lives had changed since moving out of Fox Grove. “As much as the end of the world still sucks, it’s definitely given us both kind of a leg up on our careers, maybe?” Because who could say they were hands on learning their very first year in either field? “Yeah, zombies shamble around and try to eat us but at least we’re succeeding in our careers,” Bea said, sticking her tongue out in sarcasm. “But I say for tonight, we should totally sidebar all that stuff because I can’t remember the last time I even watched this movie and I don’t want to miss this. Deal?” Kitty made a face at Bea’s use of sarcasm, though she had to admit her friend was right. “Okay, so things could obviously be better,” she began. “But they could be worse too.” Kitty glance towards the movie and then back to Bea as she gave a nod. “Deal, I mean I think we’ve had enough serious conversation for tonight,” she laughed, more than happy to settle in to watch the movie and just enjoy her best friend’s company. “If we’re going to focus on the movie now, we need snacks!” Kitty untangled herself from Bea to climb off the bed and retrieve some of the snacks they had brought upstairs earlier. Once she had snacks in hand, Kitty crawled back onto the bed and placed the food items nearby as she slipped back under the blanket, sliding in close to her friend. When she was settled again she pulled a bowl of popcorn into her lap, leaned in and pressed a kiss to Bea’s cheek and then focused on the movie playing. The month in quarantine had been the worst month of Kitty’s life, but nights like this did a lot to help to dim the memory of how stressful it had been to wait out those ten days so that she could return to the people she cared about. |
