Who: Ryan McCormick and Violet Holladay
Where: Quarantine & Bishop's house
When: Backdated to 9/9, morning
What: Birthday phone calls!
RYAN: [answers the phone on the first ring, tapping the screen to turn on the video. He grins when he sees Violet's face appear.] Hi! VIOLET: [visibly brightens when his face shows up on her screen.] Hi! Happy Birthday! [smiles, settling in a little more now she has ahold of him.] Having a blast? RYAN: Thank you! [he's dressed in the sweater that Violet and Bunny had sent him, looking cozy.] The things you sent over made it a pretty great day so far, so… [He can't help but glance around at his current surroundings, but once he looks back at her he's still more upbeat than down.] I can't complain all that much. VIOLET: And you're feeling okay? [brow furrows a little as she looks at him, almost as though she'll be able to see anything wrong through the small screen of her phone.] How's your leg? RYAN: [he glances down at the wrapped bandage that's peeking out from the bottom of his shorts.] Pretty good, actually, all things considered. They'll be checking the bite out again two days from now. How about you? [his face turns a little more serious.] How's everything healing? VIOLET: [looks a tad bit relieved when he says things are looking good.] Good, I’m glad. They’d better not let it get infected or anything. Can't have you losing a leg and having to hop around the kitchen. [grins for a moment before biting her lip.] I’m okay. It's mostly… annoying. [scrunches her nose.] I can't do anything like I want to and I have to sleep weird… like yeah, it all hurts, but also annoying. RYAN: [nods, considering this, before he looks back up at her image as though he can pinpoint where exactly it hurts.] I'm glad it wasn't you who got bit, Vi. I don't know what I'd do. VIOLET: I would prefer it not be you getting bit either. [looks down at her hands before looking back up to him, speaking quietly.] I can't lose you too, Ryan. I can't not have you with me. RYAN: I'm not going anywhere. Promise, okay? We're just double checking something we already know. VIOLET: [still quietly.] Okay. [absently tucks her hair behind her ears.] It’s weird, being here. I think it would have been weirder to be at home without you there, but staying someplace other than home… it's nice, though. RYAN: [his smile is a little sad, thinking about Violet having to stay with their neighbors because of their injury and not by choice.] They're treating you well? The babies aren't waking you up? VIOLET: [rolls her eyes.] Bishop refuses to let me stay on the couch. I’d be fine there, you know? I don't want to displace anyone. [nips at the inside of her lip.] No, they're perfectly nice. I didn't want to ask to stay but every time I thought of being home… without you and with all this going on… RYAN: No, I think it's a good idea. I'm glad you went. [more importantly, he's glad she's letting them take care of her and help.] Maybe you can get first dibs on eggs and milk when we reopen. VIOLET: [sits up a little at the mention of food.] How bad is your leg, anyway? Are you going to need crutches for a while or anything? Because right now, between the two of us, we make one complete chef. RYAN: [he smiles at the joke.] It's uncomfortable, but I think it'll be okay by the time I get out. [a knock on the door to his room is heard then and Ryan twists to the side, looking at it as he wonders what's going on.] Um, hold on… [he can be seen getting up, gingerly putting weight on his leg as he moves out of the frame. After a moment, he comes back holding a big box with a grin on his face.] Do you know what this is? VIOLET: [tilts her head as she watches him, waiting patiently for him to come back. she smiles a little when he does, managing an innocent look.] I have no idea. Someone must have heard it's your birthday or something. RYAN: [puts the box on his lap and breaks the tape, opening it.] Wow. I -- [he cuts himself off then, emotional suddenly.] Thank you. VIOLET: [smiles softly as she watches him.] I feel bad we can't have a real celebration or anything until you're out, but I needed to do something. I mean, it wasn't just me. A lot of people wanted to. RYAN: [he continues going through the box for a moment, pulling out a very bright sweater, comic books, some pencils, and several wrapped containers of food. He understands what she means now by 'a lot of people' and when he looks back up at her, his emotions haven't disappeared.] We picked a pretty good place to settle in, right? [He says this despite all the adversity they've struggled through over the last few months, hoping she'll agree.] VIOLET: [watches him with a smile, glad they were able to put something together so quickly considering the circumstances.] Yeah, I think we did. [nips at the inside of her lip as she considers it, and everything that has happened in the short few months they've been there.] The people are good, and that helps a lot with the bad that happens. It's a real… community. RYAN: [he shakes the sweater out, studying it, then puts it on. It's not his usual kind of thing, and it doesn't go with the generic clothing he's wearing, but he's grateful for it all the same.] I know what you mean. I never thought I'd be living next door to a bunch of ex-cons, but they've been good to us. VIOLET: [smiles a bit more when he puts the sweater on, because it isn't his normal look but it also looks incredibly comfortable.] They're a good bunch of ex-cons. [rests her chin on her hand.] I mean, after I took you to quarantine the first people I thought to possibly get in contact with were Bishop or Vic. That says a lot, I think. RYAN: Yeah, I think it does, too. [he pauses, looking around at everything that he'd been sent.] I should message everybody. VIOLET: That would be good of you, I’m sure they'd like that. [nips at the inside of her lip after a moment.] I miss you. RYAN: I miss you, too. But we know how this ends, I'm gonna come back out. [Weird, making a joke about his previous bite and how they'd both lost Scott then, but life is what it is.] I'll see you soon, okay? VIOLET: I know, I know. [nods once, offering him a smile.] I’ll see you soon. |
