Who: Savannah Posey and Vic Scherbatsky
Where: LBJ Community Center
What: construction consultation and catching up/commiserating
When: October 1st, early afternoon
Now that the lockdown had been officially lifted and supposedly the soldiers had thinned down the zombie hordes somewhat, it felt real fucking nice to leave the house again. He felt bad enjoying the day with Max and Marina still locked up in quarantine, but he knew they wouldn't want him to suffer for it. Once he and Sasha had made up, it felt like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders, too. So Vic felt only a tiny built of guilt as he took Sasha to work -- lockdown lifted or not, he wasn't taking any chances -- then headed over to the community center-in-progress, looking to help Savannah with a couple questions she'd had about the place. His trip out there was safe, thank God. Vic parked his bike out front, where she was already waiting, then gave her a hug. "Things all clear over in your neck of the woods?" “Clear as they can be,” Savannah said, pressing a cheek to Vic’s cheek before returning her heels to the ground. The man sure was tall. Stepping out of their hug, she began walking towards the front door, taking out her key to unlock the place. “Thanks again for comin’ to take a look at the place. Now, things ain’t too bad. It’s mostly just an empty room right now because when the government folk raided all the grocery stores in the city, they took a lot of the fixtures and all the freezers and such for Walker’s,” she explained as they walked in. “I’m not lookin’ to do anything major. Just build a few walls so that there are private rooms for meetings and community classes. And Liv’s trainin’ center should probably have some kind of sound barriers in case it gets a little noisy with music and… weightlifting noises. I--I really don’t know,” she said with a helpless shrug. She was a bit out of her element when it came to that, but hopefully Vic could steer her in the right direction. He laughed at her confusion, turning his head as they talked in order to start envisioning how the place would look. Vic wasn't an architect or lead contractor or anything, just a guy who was picking up the business with the rest of his officers, but it wasn't hard to see what she meant. "That sounds good. Nothing too crazy. The place is already in good shape so the hardest thing would be putting up the insulation for wherever the center's gonna be. I gotta tell you Sasha's pretty excited about that." “Liv too,” Savannah smiled. “Y’know I’m actually kinda surprised that they’re doin’ this together,” she continued with a laugh. “For a long time Liv wasn’t too keen on him because she found out he used to have a crush on Maizie and I guess she got jealous? I dunno. I’m just glad to see them gettin’ along better.” Vic laughed again, too. "Yeah, me too. 'Specially when they've already been going out for a long time and it ain't like he's been trying to get in on it." At least, as far as Vic knew, Sasha wasn't doing that. Vic hoped not. "It gets tiring holding on to something like that." Savannah nodded, pursing her lips a bit. She could understand Liv’s initial hesitation, especially when her relationship with Maizie was so new and foreign, but clearly they had been together almost a year without Sasha previous crush getting between them. At some point it was best to just let go. They continued walking through the open space, Vic taking notes on a pad of paper and occasionally measuring dimensions, until finally both were satisfied with what would be needed. On his notepad, the future layout of the community center was beginning to take shape. "You're gonna want some good solid flooring here too," he said, once they were in the area that she'd designated for the training center. "Something that can take a beating from the weights." The confused look on Savannah’s face was back. “I--didn't even think of that. I'm real glad I have you here to think of these kinds of things. Never was a weightliftin’ kind of girl before. I assume you've done a bit of it in your day?” She asked, amused because he was extremely muscular and probably had to work really hard to get that way. "Yeah, a fair bit." It was an understatement just like hers had been, and he grinned at her all the same. "Maybe once you have this place over here in your own center, you could give it a shot. Get all jacked and shit." Savannah laughed and gave Vic a bit of an incredulous look. “Yeah, I’ll be lookin’ real,” she paused, tampering down her amusement before she continued, “jacked... while I’m liftin’ my five pound dumbbells and you’ll be next to me bench pressin’ cars.” He scoffed. "I bet you can lift more than that if you tried." End of the fuckin' world and people are still thinking all you gotta do is lift five pounds at a time to get 'toned.' Vic couldn't believe it. "Once it's up and running maybe I ought to see if they'll let me be your personal trainer instead of one of the kids." Laughing still, Savannah gave a bit of a shrug. Working out wasn’t really her thing but it could be interesting to try out. “Alright then, I’ll give it a go. Liv and Sasha can focus on real people who want to learn about workin’ out and you can try to teach me somethin’ whenever you get the chance. I’m sure you boys are busy with the construction we have goin’ on in the city, so it’s no rush on that.” Vic nodded, still smiling even as his mind flashed to the reason why Austin was once again in need of even more construction. It seemed like they couldn't catch a damned break no matter what, on the side of the law or not. Savannah didn't need to hear about that shit, though, so all he said was: "We'll make it happen." Savannah had to step out then to answer some phone call or another, so Vic surveyed the rest of the interior until she came back still holding her phone. "What's up?" he asked, turning to face her better. “Phone call was no big deal but I was scrollin’ through the Freenet and looks like Liv is pesterin’ your son,” she rolled her eyes. “Guess we spoke too soon about them havin’ a truce.” "Huh." Vic reached for his own phone, scrolling through the top network posts, then looked over to see which post Savannah was looking at. It didn't take much longer to find the comment in question -- 'Omg don't be such a pussy about it, it's just a shot' -- and he laughed out loud. "Jesus Christ. She like this all the time?" After a pause, he added, "Think I should mess with her some?" “Yeah, she’s quite a handful,” Savannah laughed, looking down at the comment again before shaking her head in amusement. “Probably would serve her right. Y’know, taste of her own medicine and such. I say, go for it,” she said, her amused smile growing. The longer she thought about it the more the idea seemed like a good one. Vic didn't wait much longer after he'd been granted permission, tapping out a response as quick as he could before putting his phone back in his pocket. He grinned down at Savannah once he'd finished. "I'm guessing Sasha doesn't even care about it but it's a good thing you got a sense of humor about this shit." He sobered then, belatedly, remembering where she was writing from. "Maybe she's just bored as hell over in quarantine." “I’m pretty used to it. Liv and attitude are like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich,” Savannah laughed, biting her lip as she read Vic’s comment. “Is Sasha ever like that?” He shook his head. "She sounds like more of a handful than Sasha, to tell you the truth. At least, not when he ain't worked up about all the shit going on right now." Vic was hoping that if Marina had made it this far, odds were good she was gonna make it. Too bad that hadn't really done shit for him and Sasha's nerves over the past few days, and it only got worse when they factored Max into it. "We been fighting a lot. Had a good talk yesterday, but besides that…" Vic shook his head again, frowning. "Don't exactly blame him though." Savannah nodded in understanding. It was a stressful time and tensions were running high. It wasn’t a shock that Liv and Sasha would be acting out due to recent events. “Y’know, this is the worst Liv has been in a while, to tell you the truth. Last year when she was attacked by those Nahuales raiders and they broke her ankle, she was so goddamn unbearable. Had to leave my own birthday party because she ruined it with her attitude. But she’s been a lot better lately.” "Shit happens," Vic said, though his expression sobered somewhat. The officers had been shaken by the attack on the LBJ scouts last year, especially considering how close to their turf it had been, and thanks to Marina's ties to the cartel the thought of them always brought a bad taste to his mouth. "I'm glad though, that things ain't as bad as they used to be." Pocketing her phone, she looked over to Vic and asked, “Sorry to hear that you’ve been fightin’. Do you think it’ll be better after your talk yesterday?” "Yeah." He followed suit, nodding his agreement without any kind of hesitation. "It was a real good talk. Think it was one we should've had a long time ago, even before any of that shit happened with Marina and Max." Vic's sober demeanor persisted as he added, "He's been holding onto some stuff from before… I have too, I guess. We gotta let it go otherwise it's gonna keep bothering us forever." “Sometimes, holdin’ onto that pain is a lot easier than trying to work through it,” Savannah said with a frown. She was speaking from experience after all. Looking over to Vic and shifting her face to a sad smile, she continued, “But hopefully you two are movin’ in the right direction now?” "Yeah. I think so." Vic paused for a moment, considering what Savannah had been through over the last year and whether he ought to bring it up, see how she was doing with working through her own pain. But the two of them had never been close friends, though they were friendly enough, and in the end he said nothing else but: "Let's keep looking at the building and see what else needs fixing up." |
