Even if there had been something else to focus on, the exchange between Rodeo and Emilie would have had Bishop’s full attention. There was something tragically captivating about the girl, she would make anyone with mercy want to play white knight and save her. Which was in fact what was becoming his main concern in that moment. If tone and body language said anything, this broken junkie was working some kinda spell on the Dog King.
They hadn’t come here to save the girl. She probably couldn’t even be saved, but in the way the other man was warning her to stay away from Sarge, it came off almost like a warning for the girl to stay safe. Bishop wasn’t heartless, but this wasn’t why they were here instead of back at the Dog Park. This was a business transaction, not a rescue mission.
He’s not surprised when Emilie doesn’t rise to his baiting, in truth she’s given him more in that moment than any angry response would have accomplished. Behind those blue eyes of hers is a brain that still worked, she may be crazy, but she wasn’t stupid. That made her dangerous in his book.
“Sorry darlin’, I try to avoid mixing business with pleasure,” Bishop remarks, the faintest of smiles appearing while his gaze never leaves Emilie. He’s not at ease with her here, but he’s even less so when Rodeo takes his eyes off the girl to look back at him. “Really ain’t my fault that women just prefer me,” he gives a little shrug before waving a hand towards Emilie. “Maybe if you didn’t take your eyes off ‘em they’d stick around.” A veiled warning to pay attention - though he wonders if the other man even realizes yet that he’s let his guard down around her. Bishop doesn’t relax when Rodeo fires off another round of questions, one of them has to stay on guard here. Especially now that he’s almost certain she’s more of a threat than either of them initially realized.
