Jane, who had been listening to Mina's story with increasing excitement, could barely contain herself.
"Is it good enough?!" She leaped up from her chair, abandoning her meal to envelop Mina in a tight, fierce bear hug. She lifted her friend bodily from her chair and squeezed her tight, trying to convey all the joy and pride she felt for Mina in her embrace. The cop choked up a bit and never one to be able to hold back her feelings, wiped away a happy tear with a chuckle and absolutely no embarrassment. She pulled back, taking Mina's face in her hands.
"It's good, Mina. Very, fucking good. I'm so proud of you." She ran a thumb over Mina's cheekbone and smiled. Jane couldn't remember grinning so hard in a long time. Her hands fell away from Mina's face and moved to grab her hand, standing from their hovering/hugging position.
"Grab your wrap, it's a to go order now. We're going out." Still gripping Mina's hand, Jane picked up her wrap and finished off the remainder of the meal in one inelegant bite. "I don't care if I have to find some motherfucking grapes and stomp on them my own damn self, we are going to get some champagne and drink the hell outta it. I don't care that it's only lunchtime. We are celebrating."
Jane knew there would be an inevitable conversation between her and Joel regarding his finally being brought up to speed and rather than dread it, Jane was thrilled. Not only was Mina able to finally be her true self around the most important person in her life, it meant one less lie Jane had to maintain with the most important person in her life as well. Sure, there were things her partner (and now boss; Jane still had to remind herself of that upon occasion) still didn't know that Jane was holding back on him about but his daughter's orientation was now not one of them.
"The Bar is probably open now, right? How do you feel about riding on the back of a motorcycle?"
