Bea, Ryan, and Violet
“A high school full of teenagers?” Violet repeated, raising an eyebrow and nudging Ryan - not for any reason but because he kept doing it to her. “That had to be challenging.” Being in high school had been hard enough at the time - she didn't want to try and imagine essentially being stuck there with her classmates. “Looks like you made it out alright, though. What area do you live in around here?”
“There weren’t a lot of rules so it was super freeing, but then at the same time, like, no one took responsibility and stuff,” Bea shrugged, “Plus it made entering the real world a bit of a shock. I moved to the UMCB in January to apprentice under this doctor I know and all of a sudden there were so many people telling me what to do. I mean, I can take direction and follow rules. It was just new after living in a free-for-all for so long.”
After a sip of beer, she added, “I live a few blocks away from the hospital. Where do you live? You live together?” It would only make sense seeing as they’d moved down here together and were best friends and all.
"We live just a little ways from here," Ryan said, pointing vaguely in the direction of the home they'd bought together. He offered Bea another smile. As different as they were, they'd gotten along really well when they'd met and he wanted him and Violet to make more friends in the city.
(He also thought Violet specifically could use more friends, especially outgoing girls who were likely to draw people out of their shell, but he kept that to himself.)
"So maybe you should come by some time and we can hang out. Or get a drink at The Bar or something." He didn't usually do this much talking when it was him and Violet hanging out with someone, but Ryan really wanted to make this work.
Violet gave a nod of agreement, because Bea seemed nice and having people over to their house made things feel more like normal. Plus she liked to have people over. She was about to second Ryan’s suggestion when someone at a table across the room signaled to get her attention.
“Oh, I should go see what they need,” she said, taking one last sip of her wine before handing the glass off to Ryan. “It was nice to meet you, Bea!”
With a parting smile, she moved across the room to see what was needed, opening night close to but still far from over.
