tj & ryan: 1pm
A hydrant being broken was honestly the best thing that could have happened with how hot it had been. With all the stupidity that had been going on with the Hellhounds who had defected and started causing problems, he hadn't had much time for rest, or any kind of fun. A broken fire hydrant was exactly what was called for, and he'd set out for it after making sure there wasn't anything else he needed to do that was important. Nothing more important than cooling off.
After being there, losing his shirt at some point, and getting completely drenched, he went over to the food truck and ran his hands back through his wet hair, pushing it away from his face as he looked at the menu written on the side and waited for the person in front of him to be done with their order.
Ryan set a paper plate of burgers and onion rings in the pick-up window and stepped back over to take the next -- Well. He was supposed to take the next order, but it was sort of hard to focus when there was so much… Chest. And it just kept going on and on, too; Ryan wasn't a short guy, but he still had to look up to meet TJ's eyes.
"Hi," he said, a bit dumbly, patting his shorts pockets down with his hands as he tried to find the order pad. "Mr. Greenling. Um, how may I help you today?"
TJ quirked an eyebrow at being addressed so formally. Even before the whole uprising he'd never been much for ‘mister’ and definitely not a title he thought only belonged to his father. But the kid meant well, so he wasn't about to say anything about it. Well, not much.
“It's just TJ,” he replied, offering Ryan a good natured smile. “Y'all don't have any desserts do you? Just the burgers and fries and all that?”
"Officially, yes." Still flustered by TJ's persistent state of undress, Ryan finally found the order pad - right in front of him, on the counter. "But I've been testing some ice cream free milkshakes kind of secretly." He shrugged a shoulder, returning TJ's smile with a sheepish one of his own. "We aren't sure how steady the milk supply will be just yet, so in the interest of not overloading Bunny too much I haven't wanted to put them on the menu." He paused for a moment, considering, then added, "Do you want to try one?"
To be fair, TJ hadn't expected them to have anything but what was on the menu, so Ryan’s first answer would have been enough for him not to ask any further. But milkshakes. His expression brightened at the thought, and then a bit more when Ryan offered to let him try one. It really was turning out to be a pretty good day, all this considered.
“That’d be amazing.” He brought his hand up to rub over his face, getting rid of drops of water trailing down from his hair and heading toward his eyes. “Here I thought I'd be outta luck.”
"Yeah." The word was drawn out a little longer than Ryan would have liked, the pause after the word, too, but he'd gotten distracted by the way the water was running down TJ's face and muscular neck. Who even had necks like that, these days?
Violet had only been half-paying attention to what was going on, though she was familiar with the way Ryan was standing, carrying himself just then. It meant cute boy. Though once glance out to who was standing there and she wasn't sure cute was the right word. She threw a balled up paper towel at her friend and hit him in the back of the head, effectively causing Ryan to realize that he'd kind of, well. Calling his mental wandering a 'tangent' felt like a grievous understatement.
"Sorry," Ryan said, blushing now even as he privately wished Violet could be anywhere but here. "Yeah, I can make you a milkshake. What else would you like?"
“Just a cheeseburger and fries,” TJ added, grinning. “Uh, cheddar cheese and medium rare? That'd be perfect.”
"All right." The order got written down, plus some initialed code for a peanut butter chocolate milkshake. Ryan chanced one more look up at TJ, at his chiseled physique and still-damp hair, and smiled again. "Perfect."
