Ruby didn't hold back a small, sardonic scoff of laughter at the lady-cop's comment about Austin 'not being much to look at'. That about sums up the whole damn world, she thought to herself, squinting in her direction against the slant of the sun.
She definitely picked up on the tone, though. 'Looting'. Police uniform. Had to be dead drunk or dangerously dumb not to put it together. There was the possibility that the chick was posing, setting up an ambush for the lone scrapper she found in the rubble...
That's what Ruby would've done. If it were a man.
"Trust me, I don't wanna me here any more than you do-" Ruby tossed the same cadence back at her, lopping down from the weed-grown stoop she was standing on to close the distance between them. Not too close, though- for mutual comfort. She even made a show of holding both hands out a bit, fingers wide. No harm, no foul. Yet.
"They mentioned something to me about registering in one of the districts. Probably wasn't my best decision to see what my options were first, y'know?" she offered, 'hopeful'. "Think you can help me out with that?"
