Veronica thought about that for a moment and finally agreed. True. Pennies were always easily lost before everything fell apart. She gave Axe a half-shrug as she nodded a little. "I suppose you're right," she said. But the small pout she made when she had mulled that over changed into a smile at his last question. "Hey, beer is worth quite a bit these days."
Leaning back in the chair beside him, she opened her own beer and took a small swig of it. Veronica had never really liked the taste of beer. But these days, even a Princess knew that beggars couldn't be choosers.
"Those blobs were horrifying," said Veronica, completely serious. It really was a wonder how she survived this long. She attributed it to luck. But it was mainly thanks to the effort of others who were willing to save her.
"How has it been down there?" she asked, a little cautious, understanding how difficult Axe's job could possibly be.
