Nathan and Violet - 5:30PM
Nathan was in a good mood. Probably the best mood he’d been in since he’d found out Savannah was safe in Austin. There wasn’t much that topped finding out people were alive after all, and finding Jake near Burger, She Wrote, had been a gold star on an already good day. He’d lingered around after the happy reunion since he didn’t have anywhere else to go, ordered more onion rings, and tried more than once to catch a conversation with one of the proprietors of his new favorite food joint. But they’d been taking orders like mad, and been in other conversations, so he’d let it go.
Until there seemed to be a lull in activity and Nathan caught sight of the woman -Violet, from what he’d overheard- towards one side of the truck. He made his way over, and made an extra effort not to seem like he was some kind of creep who’d been loitering.
“Hey,” Nathan greeted. “I wanted to tell y’all I’m a real big fan of your food.” He smiled, and caught himself before he leaned against the side of their food truck. First impressions and all. “Looks like business was hoppin’ today.”
Violet glanced over quickly when she heard someone start speaking to her, offering him a soft smile as she turned to be more facing him. She'd seen him earlier, she knew that, but she'd seen a lot of people that day. “Oh, thank you. It was a good day, yeah. I'm glad you liked it! That's always nice to hear.”
She wiped her hands against her apron before offering one toward him. “I'm Violet.”
Nathan shook the hand that Violet offered, because he was a lot of things but rude wasn't one of them. “Nathaniel,” he offered in return. “Or Nathan, really. No one bothers with those last few letters unless they’re shamin’ me for somethin’.”
Violet was pretty, the kind of pretty Nathan would bet caught a lot of attention, including his. But his head wasn’t all that hard to turn to begin with. He settled back again, hands in his back pockets in a lazy kind of slouch. “What brought y’all down to Austin? The booming economy?” It's a hair sardonic, the last bit, but not that inaccurate if Nathan had to guess. He already assumed the government might start offering incentives to outside business, to help rebuild Austin. But he’s no political expert.
